How do you make Thanksgiving stuffing without a turkey?!

Question:

How do you make Thanksgiving stuffing without a turkey?

We aren't making turkey this year but still want to enjoy stuffing. Is there a way to make it without actually stuffing it inside a bird?

Answers:
You can just put the stuffing in a baking dish. We always make at least 2 extra pans besides what is in the bird and many "experts" recommend not stuffing the bird anyway.

put it in a baking dish in the oven and call it dressing.

go to foodtv.com. they have a ton of thanksgiving recipes. search for stuffing/dressing recipes. pick any that sounds good to you. substitute any animal-based stock/broth with vegetable broth/stock and follow the baking instructions. almost all directions will be for baking the stuffing in a casserole dish.

Boil the giblets in a pan, grind the meat that comes off them, along with some day old bread, onions, celery, sage, salt & pepper in a bowl. Mix it up. Use a little of the broth to moisten and put it in the oven at 350 degrees for about an hour.

Stovetop Stuffing!!

the other answers are great, It would be dressing, but if you aren't eating meat there is vegetable broth that you can use for the liquid of your dressing.

Mix it according to directions but bake it in the oven. I'd check out yahoo food or food network for more tips.

cook sage sausage sit aside
sautee: green, yellow, red peppers, onions, celery, dice pears&apples and minced garlic
sautee in oil from sausage
cook cornbread follow box directions
mix cornbread sausage,veggies, fruit
use college inn broth or the broth from any meats you cook for moisture (never water it's tasteless) in a bowl once ingredents well mixed
place in pyrx or baking dish
allow to brown
yummiee

Of course there is. The recipe is on the back of the bag. It's not even a good idea to cook stuffing in the turkey because there is a risk of cross contamination.

you can make a cornbread stuffing make a simple pan of cornbread set a side when done in a frying pan add chopped onion chopped celery chopped carrots some parsly salt pepper some butter and cook till onions are soft set aside in a big bowl crumbly up the cornbread add the veggie mix that you cooked off mix together open a can of veggie stock beat 2 eggs add stock and eggs to cornbread and mix well butter or spay a baking pan put the stuffing in it and bake it at 350 for about 20 min or till golden brown eat and enjoy

i buy the Peppridge Farms stuffing....the one with herbs and white and wheat bread... it has no animal by products in it.....

stove top stuffing already has chicken or turkey broth in it....

anyway....on the stove top...i combine the Peppridge Farms stuffing with a can of vegetable broth (you can find both of these things anywhere...at Publix...at Walmart...wherever you shop)
and a little margarine and it makes delicious stuffing... it is vegetarian but not vegan because of the margarine....

Try StoveTop Stuffing - I love it!

If u make it in a crockpot it's easy and it comes out sooo yummy and you don't have to heat up the oven!!

Mama's Crockpot Dressing
1 cup melted butter
2 cups finely chopped onion
2 cups chopped celery
13 cups dry, crumbled bread
1 tsp poultry seasoning
1 1/2 tsp sage
1 tsp dried thyme
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp marjoram
3 cups veggie broth
2 beaten eggs
Melt butter in a large roasting pan and saute onion and celery till limp. Dump in all seasonings and stir into the liquid. Next Dump in bread crumbs/cubes and toss together well. Pour in broth and toss together well. Add beaten eggs and mix together well. Pack lightly into a crock pot that has been sprayed with cooking spray.
Cover and cook on high for 45 minutes, then lower to low for 4 to 8 hours.

You can use an egg substitute if you like.
Enjoy!
