To avoid pesticide residues can't you just peel the fruit/veggie you're eating?!

Question:

To avoid pesticide residues can't you just peel the fruit/veggie you're eating?

Answers:
Not necessarily; many growers use systemic pesticides that work from the *inside* of the plant! They are supposed to not use these close to harvest date to allow time for these to break down but that doesn't always happen.

You can dramatically cut surface pesticide by using a natural soap (like Dr. Bronner baby soap) instead of peeling!

And here's a link to a list of 'dirty' veggies

While washing and peeling could be good against getting rid of pesticides, in most fruits and veggies, the skins have the bulk of the nutrients. if you are still worried about it, they have organic non toxic rinses.

try that.

Wash with salt water to reduce pesticide residues, if you cannot get organic vegetables. Peeling defeats the very purpose of eating vegetables and fruits

For info on the Dirty Dozen (pesticide containing fruits/veg):

Most pesticides will be throughout the whole fruit and vegetables. Not only the pesticides are systemic and go through the whole plant, but also because the pesticides are washed off in the water and enter the soil to be taken up by the plan't roots.
Herbicides are also a problem in the fruit and vegetables. So much so because alot of genetically modified plants contain genes that will block herbicides, in which the farmers spray things like Round-Up on all the vegetation and only those plants with the gene will live. That gene is in every cell of that plant, and thus in the fruit of the plant. I really don't want to ingest that gene in the fruit/veg. that I've eaten. And in the US, they don't have to tell you if it is a GMO or not, only the organic will prove that it is not a GMO.

well
the skin is the
healthest part
of the fruit
just wash it!

Not only does the skin contain most of the nutritional value in most fruits/veggies... but also... the pesticide doesn't only end up on the exterior of the plant. Instead, it gets soaked into the ground, which is then absorbed by the roots and distributed throughout the plant - stems, leaves, fruit and all.

You can always wash the skin of your fruit in vinegar and water , that is if you want the skin of the fruit because truly that is were all the nutrients come from. If not you can always just peel away! :)

It's not only the pesticides it's the GM. Genetically Modify. They put scorpian, trantula, fish DNA into the veggies and fruits chances are if they are not home grown or organic. Not only is it disgusting and disturbing there is also talk it may cause cancer and other deadly diseases in the future.

Peeling foods gets ride of the most nutritious part of the foods. Just wash well with veggie wash.
