Answers:
Tofu has the special ability of adapting its flavor from the foods you cook it with. So depending with what you cook it with you can get better tasting tofu than other. It can be sweet or salty.
cheap cat food. My cats will touch neither.
Its slightly cheesy, As are my feet.
salty and upsets my stomach!
(did i over-share then??)

i bought today a tofu dessert which taste good.
my chinese friend told me that if i want to cook tofu i need some spices from chinese shop. So it taste good if you know to cook it. But you can try desserts that dont require cooking.
I recently began eating tofu and I LOVE IT! The tofu itself really has no taste but it absorbs ingredients very well like marinades, I would reccomend buying the firm tofu. The best I've had is grilled tofu straight from the BBQ with this stir fry sauce called NASOYA (comes in many flavors. If you happen to live in Los Angeles try the tofu festival (comes around every year) even people like myself who thought they would'nt like tofu Love the food they have there.
Oh try this book too supposed to be good http://www.amazon.com/this-cant-tofu-som...
Its a bit bland. You really need to cook it with something that has lots of flavour which it will take on.
NO!!! Tofu is soy bean curd.It has NO flavor other than that which you add to it,although it mysteriously takes any good flavor you add and screws it up grossly
Well... it depends on your taste buds... It is pretty bland in itself and takes the taste of spices that you cook it with... strong flavoured spices can enhance the taste of TOFU. its very healthy though... all protein... try it with garlic (garlic has a strong flavor). some chinese dishes use it well.. i m not chinese so i m not sure what spices they use... if you have some chinese friends, do check with them. i use it with garlic and tomato sauce.... which makes it good...
It basically takes on the taste of whatever you are cooking....but I don't care that much for it.
i have been a vegetarian for ten years, and i can honesty say that i don't truly love tofu!
Tofu can adapt to any flavor. I make a really good Tofu cheesecake. I took some to work and nobody new it wa tofu and everyone loved it. It really depends on how you make it and how you marinade it. It soaks up any flavor.
It has no flavour ... it takes on the flavour of watever you cook it with
It depends on which sort of tofu you are buying, but in general it hasn't got much taste. Some people say it's almost tasteless, but I would say the closest is unsweetened soya milk.
As it's not got much taste, you can add it to many different things. I used to use it instead of meat. When you freeze it, it will end up like a sponge...so many people say you shouldn't freeze it, but I used to freeze it on purpose. Then after it was defrosted, I used to squeeze the moisture out, and used it instead of meat. If you fry it with a little bit of meat or bacon, it sucks up the flavor, so it will taste like meat or bacon. If you fry it with vegetable, it will taste like the vegetable. That's what I used to do when I was in Japan, as I didn't want to eat too much meat.
It tastes of nothing and is like chewing a bit of rubber .............
No it doesnt, it falls apart has no taste and is horrible
There is an old saying which I think sums it up in one go:
Tofu tastes of nothing only more so ! ! !
Raw tofu hardly has any taste, a bit like the plain white cheeses, mozzarella for example, a bit salty, but nothing else really.
Fermented tofu is a different kettle of fish. This is often fermented in a rice wine or other alcohol environment. It smells a bit bad, the texture is more like a paste and it's wicked. A bit like marmite, an acquired taste, you love it or hate it.
I love the taste of well prepared tofu. Just like most other foods, tofu can taste really delicious or really gross, depending on what you do with it. I think a lot of the people who say it's nasty have either never tried it and are just basing their opinion on it's looks, or they have never had it prepared correctly. It's really a very versatile food. You can bake it, fry it, deep fry it, blend it, broil it, grill it or stir fry it. It is difficult to compare the taste of tofu itself to anything else because it has a very mild flavor until seasoned and cooked and the texture varies depending on which kind you are using. Give it a try or two. It's a very healthy addition to your diet.
Here is a tip for everyone. Try pressing out your tofu for about 15 minutes before marinating it to get out some of the excess water. This helps it absorb more of the flavors you are cooking with. Just put your block of tofu between two thick paper towels and set a plate on top. It can make a huge difference.
Plain tofu doesn't really have a taste. It picks up the flavor of whatever it is cooked with.
Tofu doesn't taste of much on it's own. You have to marinade it. Try soy sauce with grated ginger and garlic in it, add a little honey and maybe some fresh chili or chili flakes. Marinade overnight in the fridge or for at least 30 minutes at room temp. Drain and fry with Chinese veg. Retain marinade, thicken with a little cornflour. Pour over tofu and serve with boiled rice.
tofu is to blame for me getting the AIDS, my girlfriend leaving me and the fact that i'm homeless. don't do it
Your better off with a pot noodle!
I've only ever had it in Chinese or Thai food, so I can't be too thorough in my answer, but DAMN is it good. I was always weary of tofy, I thought I'd hate it so I never even tried it for years, but then once I had a Chinese which came with it and I was feeling adventurous. I loved it- I still haven't had it in anything else but I would definitely be open to it now.
If you're into Chinese or Thai, ask for something with tofu (they often call it bean curd) to try it. It's in big chunks so if you don't like it you can just pick it out and eat the other stuff, nothing wasted really.
I agree with a post above, it is like an anti-flavour. You can add anything you like and it will still be a horrible blob with a texture not unlike hard boiled egg gone wrong.
