"Health Concerns
Deadly Poisons From the Deep
Fish flesh today is badly contaminated with toxic chemicals that are known to cause cancer and brain degeneration and is also the most likely of all foods to make you sick from bacterial contamination.
Think Fish Is a Health Food? Think Again.
Fish live in water that is so polluted, you would never dream of drinking it. But you’re ingesting this toxic brew―bacteria, contaminants, heavy metals and all―every time you eat fish.
Researchers at the University of Illinois found that fish-eaters with high levels of PCBs in their blood have difficulty recalling information they have learned just 30 minutes earlier.6
Fish’s bodies absorb toxic chemicals in the water around them, and the chemicals become more concentrated as they move up the food chain. Big fish eat little fish, with the bigger fish (such as tuna and salmon) absorbing chemicals from all the other fish they eat. Fish flesh stores contaminants, such as PCBs, which cause liver damage, nervous system disorders, and fetal damage; dioxins, also linked to cancer; radioactive substances like strontium 90; and other dangerous contaminants like cadmium, mercury, lead, chromium, and arsenic, which can cause health problems ranging from kidney damage and impaired mental development to cancer.1,2 3,4 These toxins are stored in the body fat of humans who eat fish and remain in their bodies for decades.5
Seafood is the number one cause of food poisoning in the United States.8 Seafood poisoning can result in extreme discomfort, kidney damage, nervous system damage, and even death.9
Seafood is also the number one cause of food poisoning in the United States. Many of our waterways are polluted with human and animal feces, and this waste carries dangerous bacteria like E. coli. So when we eat fish, we are exposing ourselves to the unnecessary risk of contracting a nasty bacterial illness that can lead to mild to extreme discomfort, nervous system damage, and even death.7
According to a report by the General Accounting Office, the seafood industry is dangerously underregulated. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration doesn’t even bother to test most fish flesh for many well-known chemical and bacterial health hazards."

I also found top 10 reasons not to eat salmon:
"With summer on the horizon, many people are thinking about health, fitness, and flaunting their firm forms while having fun in the sun. If you’re eating salmon because you think it’s good for your health―think again. Here are 10 “reel” reasons not to eat it:
Salmon Are Smart
Fish are smart. Oxford University scientist Dr. Theresa Burt de Perera recently discovered that fish learn even faster than dogs. Fish learn from each other, have long-term memories, and can recognize one another. They gather information by eavesdropping, and some species even use tools, which, until recently, was thought to be a uniquely human trait. Like the dogs and cats with whom we share our homes, they also like to play, investigate new things, and hang out with friends.
Arsenic and Old Waste
Mmmm, want a plate full of poison? Fish have extremely high levels of chemicals such as arsenic, mercury, PCBs, DDT, dioxins, and lead in their flesh and fat. You may even get industrial-strength fire retardant with that catch of the day. The chemical residue found in salmon flesh can be as much as 9 million times that of the water in which they live.
Harm at the Farm
Four-fifths of the United States’ most popular fish flesh, salmon, consumed in the U.S. is farm-raised. These fish, who are raised by the millions in cages made of nets in coastal waters, are killing off wild fish populations as well, since it takes 5 pounds of commercially caught fish (species not eaten by humans) to produce 1 pound of farmed fish.
Sea Lice Aren’t So Nice
No one wants to wear a “death crown,” but thanks to chronic sea lice, a parasite that eats down to the bones on a fish’s face, salmon commonly suffer this condition. Salmon also routinely go insane and sustain sores and other injuries from intense crowding, as they are made to live their entire lives with as many as 27 fish in a space the size of a bathtub.
Slammin’ Salmon
No, we’re not talking about a baseball player―but fish farmers do often use bats to beat large salmon to death. All methods used to slaughter fish are grotesque and cruel. Fish have their gills slit while they are still alive, and smaller salmon are often packed in ice and left to slowly suffocate or freeze to death.
Open Waters Are Open Sewers
Everybody loves the Big Apple, but would you eat something fished out of the city’s sewer system? According to the Norwegian government, the salmon and trout farms in Norway alone produce roughly the same amount of sewage as New York City. The massive amount of raw sewage, dead fish corpses, and antibiotic-laden fish food sludge settling below farmed salmon cages can actually cause the ocean floor to rot, destroying vital habitat for the already strained marine ecosystem and turning coastal waters into open sewers.
Breeding Brain Damage
Usually when Moms pass things on to their children, it’s a good thing―but when pregnant or nursing moms eat fish, they pass the toxins they consume on to their babies. Studies have also shown that children born to mothers who eat fish are slower to talk, walk, and develop fine motor skills and have weaker memories and shorter attention spans. Scientists at the Harvard School of Public Health have found that fish consumption can cause irreversible impairment to brain function in children, both in the womb and as they grow.
Don’t Forget About the PCBs
Feeling forgetful? There could be something fishy going on. Scientists have proved that people who eat only two servings of fish a month have difficulty recalling information that they learned just 30 minutes earlier. The culprit is high levels of mercury, lead, and PCBs in their blood. PCBs, synthetic chemicals polluting water and concentrated in fish flesh, act like hormones, wreaking havoc on the nervous system and contributing to a variety of illnesses beyond forgetfulness and vertigo, including cancer, infertility, and other sexual problems.
For Your Health
Would you like tartar sauce with those cancer-causing toxins? If you’re feeling green around the gills, salmon could be making you seriously ill. The Environmental Working Group estimates that 800,000 people in the U.S. face an excess lifetime cancer risk from eating farmed salmon. Plus, salmon flesh contains high amounts of artery-clogging cholesterol and fat.
Faux Fish
Fake it for salmon’s sake! Tempt your taste buds without tempting fate by trying faux fish. Your local Asian food mart or health food store is packed with vegetarian mock seafood products―including salmon fillets. Also, try Worthington’s Tuno for a great-tasting fake that has all the flavor of the “real thing” without the contaminants or cholesterol.
If you’re “fishing” for a heart-smart diet that has been proved to actually reverse heart disease while also reducing the risk of cancer, diabetes, and obesity and that is good for the environment as well as fish-friendly―a vegetarian diet is the perfect catch."

protein
What ever choice you make should be yours alone.
Personally, I'd continue to eat fish. There are risk, but a lot of health benefits.
well, according to those who are vegetarian for religious resons, they don't eat certain fish because they are bottom feeders that eat junk off the bottom of the sea or lake. Such as catfish or sucker. Seventh Day Advetists shudder at the thought of eating those types of fish. They don't eat shell fish either. They certainly don't eat pork because they are 'living garbage disposals" according to them. Not all seventh day advetist omit meats from their diet though.
I eat meat for protein but I'm very selectful. If you're going to be vegetarian that's great! Just make sure you replace your meat with healthy choices so you still get a good amount of protein. I'm not for vegan but I would let my daughter be an ovo -lacto vegetarian if she wanted.
fish is a good brain food.It has omega 3 fats which have many health benefits like fighting depression, reduce pain in arthritis and other inflamations, and can boost your immune systems among many other things.
being semi-vegetarian is perfectly fine, if that's what you stand up for. but personally, whether or not fish is considered meat or not it's still FLESH and flesh is still MEAT. so i say, give up fish. i mean, how would you feel if you were just hangin out at a pool and suddenly a huge fish comes up and taunts you to a piece of pizza, you go for it, and next thing you know, you have a hook sticking out of your mouth. see my point?
anyway, if you believe in eating fish, go ahead, but fish is flesh and flesh is meat.
keep the good work, and spread the word about animal cruelty!
If your'e asking us to give you reasons to be a full vegetarian, than your'e not ready.
I've been a vegetarian for 14 years and it was a decision that came from inside of me. I just knew it was right for me. If you don't know that then you probably won't last as a vegetarian.
It's just not right for some people.
Its upto you ... do you think fish feel ? If you do then you shoudnt eat them if you dont ... then do whatevers best for you.
there's only one reason why it's wrong to me.. i know it can be healthy but it grosses me out to think that they swim in water that is really poluted and they swim in their own... well you know.
I believe Christ Jesus had fish so its okay.
Fish is good and good for you....healthy
