Am I considered a vegeterian? If so, what type?!

Question:

Am I considered a vegeterian? If so, what type?

I do want to eat fish, but no other meats; also, I will consume dairy products, including milk and eggs.

Answers:
Technically, if you eat fish you're not a vegetarian. But, there is a term for people who are veg and eat fish - Pesco Vegetarian. Consuming eggs and dairy makes you an Ovo-Lacto Vegetarian. All in all, you would be a Ovo-Lacto-Pesco Vegetarian. But avoid hardcore vegetarian message boards, they might blast you for eating fish because again, technically, vegetarians don't eat fish.

Oh for chrissakes....i hate this source thing for the vegetarian and vegan section. fine. any nutrition book, Vegetarian Times, and PETA.

It's easier to call yourself a vegetarian than find an exact term for what you are, because no one will understand it anyway. Vegetarian and Vegan are the two common one's, but a true Vegetarian wouldn't eat fish...but you are a Vegetarian in today's society, because there really are so many different variations.

Put it this way, I don't eat any meat, milk or eggs, but I do eat fish, cheese and butter...and I still call myself a Vegetarian.

That's not being a vegetarian. It's called being picky!!

Once you eat fish, you are not considered a vegetarian.

you`re just plain a vegetarian.

nope, sorry. not a vegetarian. If you cut out all meat, but still eat dairy and eggs, then you would be a lacto-ovo-vegetarian.

Well, you are a semi-vegetarian. But if you dropped the fish, you would be a lacto-ovo vegetarian. Ovo stands for eggs, lacto stands for milk.

I think that you would just be a vegetarian

your an omnivore

Hello,
The correct term is 'pescetarian' it means fish eater. According to the Vegetarian Society website fish are alive and feel pain and therefore are animals. Anyone who eats animals is a 'pescetarian' . The Vegetarian society will not approve a product if it contains fish or fish derivatives.

Technecally a Pesco-Vegetarian.
I would just call you an omnivore though.

Nope. vegetarians do not eat animals...PERIOD.

demi-vegetarian, but the vegetarian society won't consider you as one

If you're going to continue to eat dead animals, you cannot consider yourself a vegetarian. Period.

Vegetarians do eat dairy products, but the fact that you eat fish does not make you any less a meat eatter then the person who eats burgers everyday. Fish are living and have to be killed against there will to be sold then eatten. You chose to eat those which is against vegetarian belief. Therefor your just a person who choses to eat no meat besides fish.

You would be a pescetarian, as you still eat fish. You can still be a vegetarian and eat eggs and dairy, as I do.

Eats eggs- Ovo- vegetarian
Eats dairy- Lacto- vegetarian
Eats both- Ovo- lacto- vegetarian

Not a Vegetarian it the answer ask a real one(vegetarian)....once you start consuming meat.

To the meat world your a vegetarian. To the vegetarian world your a meat eater. You just can't win.

This type of diet could be considered a vegetarian cause it is okay and one can et meat being a vegetarian as long it is considered clean meats according to the bible.

I also eat fish, dairy and eggs. I call my self a vegetarian and have for a while but lately people have been calling me a pescaterian since I eat fish. Mind you I have been a vegetarian since I was eight and it is annoying for me when people who have been vegetarians for a couple of months or a year to say that they are real vegetarians and I m not. If I were you I would call myself a vegetarian.

If you eat fish you're not a vegetarian. Plain as that.

IF YOU EAT FISH, YOU'RE NOT A VEGETARIAN, YOU'RE A MEAT-EATER!!

There's no such thing as a vegetarian who eats fish - fish are alive and to eat them, you have to kill them.

The terms pesco-vegetarian and pescetarian have been coined by fish-eaters who feel guilty that they're still eating dead animals and want to salve their consciences by giving themselves a vegetarian halo!!

I think a better term for these people is fishocrite. :-P

By the way, there's no such thing as a semi-vegetarian or a demi-vegetarian. You either eat meat or you don't. If one piece of meat passes your lips, you're not a vegetarian.

Cut. And. Dried.

You're not a vegetarian - you just "don't eat red meat."

No, you're not a vegetarian. You're a NON-vegetarian.

nope you are not a vegetarian as you eat fish (which is animal flesh)

You're a WANNABE.

Some consider fish meat some do not. Do what you like and don't let uniformed people tell you any different. You will feel much better in the long run the healthier you eat.

As already mentioned...

NO YOU ARE A MEAT EATER
You are not a vegetarian if you eat sentient creatures (like fish).

Some people have coined the term 'Piscatarian' for someone who does not eat land animals but still wants to eat water animals... after 'Pisces' the fish... but they are probably those people who still want to eat fish, but claim a little niche for themselves.

So - why would you want to NOT eat land animals, but still eat fish?

I am interested as to your reasoning here.

No,you are still a meat eater because you still eat fish and eggs and if you had only eaten dairy products and greens then i would have considered as you are a vegetarian.

If you want to eat fish YOU WILL NOT BE A VEGETARIAN. So please, do us all a favour and NEVER refer to yourself as a veggie, it confuses everyone....except me, i know you're wrong.

Check out the vegetarian socities defintion of a veggie. They are recognised as the world leading authority on veggie matters:

A vegetarian is someone living on a diet of grains, pulses, nuts, seeds, vegetables and fruits with or without the use of dairy products and eggs (preferably free-range).

A vegetarian does not eat any meat, poultry, game, fish, shellfish or crustacea, or slaughter by-products such as gelatine or animal fats.

Types of Vegetarian
Lacto-ovo-vegetarian. Eats both dairy products and eggs. This is the most common type of vegetarian diet.
Lacto-vegetarian. Eats dairy products but not eggs.
Vegan. Does not eat dairy products, eggs, or any other animal product.
Fruitarian. A type of vegan diet where very few processed or cooked foods are eaten. Consists mainly of raw fruit, grains and nuts. Fruitarians believe only plant foods that can be harvested without killing the plant should be eaten.
Macrobiotic. A diet followed for spiritual and philosophical reasons. Aims to maintain a balance between foods seen as ying (positive) or yang (negative). The diet progresses through ten levels, becoming increasingly restrictive. Not all levels are vegetarian, though each level gradually eliminates animal products. The highest levels eliminate fruit and vegetables, eventually reaching the level of a brown rice diet.

GOODANSWER : You need to change your screen ID ! . YOU ARE NOT A VEGGIE, its a simply as that. Look at all the formal definitions, look at all the other answers here. Is it any wonder people say you are not a veggie, BECAUSE YOU ARN'T.

Good grief, how complicated is this ?....oh, its not, your wrong.

By the way, we get this type of confusion all the time, so its ok for you to be confused once. However its not ok for you to continue calling yourself veggie know you know the truth.
