Your mom has you best interest at heart.
Once you leave the home of your mother, then you can become a vegetarian. Read up on what you need to eat. It not as easy as just eating vegetables.
Here's two places to start.

http://www.youngwomenshealth.org/vegetar...
But, until you leave home, offer to cook a vegetarian meal for the family. It might be easier once you show your mom that you are serious about this and have taken the time to make SURE you are getting a healthy diet. If your mom still doesn't let you, you can still offer to make a vegetarian dish for the meals, make sure you use different foods so you will already have a good idea of what you are getting into and be ready when you move out on your own.
And if you want to win people over don't tell them how terrible they are for eating meat. It turns people off, instead offer of make them a vegetarian dish.
And no I'm not a vegetarian, love some of the food though, and yes I know how meat get to my dinner table, and yes I still eat it. I also hunt and fish, and I try to use all the animal and try not to waste. Don't forget the everything lives off something else.
Don't forget some of the fruitarians ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/fruitarian... ) look down on vegetarians for taking the lives of plants.
Don't rant and don't get angry.
Hope it helps.
Just eat meat. Animals are meant to be sliced up, put on the spit, and munched to pieces..yum yum!
I guess it's starve or eat animal flesh
poop
You are killing plants by eating vegatables. What's the difference? And innocent "lives?" How do you think tigers feel when they kill something and eat it?
Most vegaterians become anemic over time and gain weight from eating too much dairy (unless you become a vegan). Your mom is a nurse and is right.
I don't know what to tell u but I agree with your mother that is just horrible that u would wanna do that 2 yourself.
A vegetarian diet that is balanced, is much better for you than one that has lots of red meat. In our house, my hubby cooks vegetarian just because he wants us to live a long time and not give ourselves colon cancer. Offer to take over the cooking, and show her what great recipes there are. Do you have any money of your own? You could buy a package of frozen shelled edamame and make yourself a little dish of them as a snack, right in front of her. Edamame are yummy because they're beans, but they taste like nuts! Then you'll be leading by example! Good luck. Moms can be stubborn.
you know its funny cuz i also want to be a vegetarian but my mom wont let me she sais i shouldnt be funny and i can never get her to not give me meat so when shes not around i dont eat meat but when she is i have to
why not make a meal for your family, totally vegetarian and prove that you mean it. Or if you have an allowance, why not buy your own veggie food, like Tofu, quorn or veggie burgers etc
plants are living things too....errrrr....think.....dou... errrr
why don't you take vitamins to substitute meat so both you and your mom can be happy.
I was a vegetarian my whole life..Raised a vegetarian..Up until I was about 19 I started eating fish...I feel guilty but I get lots of protein. This is my advice as long as you educate yourself about how to get lots of protein its perfectly healthy. You can argue how many diseases have been linked with eating especially red meat, it is NOT healthy..Today there are sooooooo many meat free sources of protein, find a natural food coop or store in or near your neighborhood, you will be bombarded with endless choices..And if you can't handle taking meat out of your diet completely atleast eat cage free eggs, and free range chicken.
Unless she force feeds you, she cannot stop you from not eating meat.
How can you be taking their lives when thier already dead
I am not a vegetarian but I respect anyone's right to be one if they choose. How old are you? That makes a difference. Ultimately, your parents are responsible for you. My initial reaction is that if you have to ask how to become a vegetarian you have not yet put enough thought and research into it, and might not yet be mature enough to be one without family support.
You have to remember that if you choose to be a vegetarian it will change things for your parents - grocery shopping, meal preparation, cooking, etc. You don't necessarily have a right to impose that on them. Do you plan to do your own shopping and prepare your own meals? Your mom would obviously know a great deal about nutrition, and she is thinking of you.
You need to sit down and discuss this sensibly with your parents if you are really serious. Be able to explain to them how you will get enough protein, that you will learn to cook tasty, well balanced vegetarian meals, and that you will make sure it will not compromise their lifestyle or give them more work. Possibly explain that you will continue to eat eggs and dairy products. Be able to present how you will make sure that you have adequate nutrition.
These sites may help you learn more about your interest in being a vegetarian.
ok.. do you want to be a vegetarian or a "junk foodatarian" because eating Cheetoes and Mt. Dew doesn't make you a vegetarian.
Why don't you start by asking if you can cut down your intake of meats.. Start with red and progress from there. Unless you are willing to learn what you need to eat to make up for the lack of protein and iron in your diet, your mom is right.
If you can get her to let you have meat, say fish, only 2X a week, you need to show her that you are making up for it with other nutritious foods, tofu, soy, hummus, ect. Going straight veg is not going to work, you will get sick. I was a vegetarian for 8 years, but I had to start by cutting things out slowly. And take some vitamins!
Dont...God created animals for a reason so that humans can eat them. It's a part of life and you will eventually eat meat sometime because animals eat other animalsand they dont feel bad, so why should you? You need meat in your body system to be healthy and ahve protien in you. Its a part of life and a way to keep healthy.
Try to convince by cooking your own food,
showing her that your vegetarianism won't be her problem,
and showing her that vegetarianism doesn't mean that you only eat salad.
Well that sucks for you i think your mom is right though. Don't be drawn in by these animal rights groups like peta they aren't even officially against abortion even though they are against everything that causes animals pain. Unborn children are people too and have the right to live.
I know exactly what you mean, when I told my parents I wanted to become a vegetarian they wouldn't believe me, they thought it would be a thing for a month and then I would eat again meat, but that didn't happened, so they tried to make me eat chicken!, it was really difficult for me, they didn't help me at all, until they realized that I wasn't gonna change my mind and they started to help me, not much but at least now after 5 years of being veggie they respect my decision.
good luck with that!
make a deal with your mom. You won't eat red meat. but you know you've allready tried that so..........
eat veggies, fruits and morning star products (soy). Explain to your parents why you want to become a vegetarian and ask your mom for some vegetarian friendly food that can substitute for meat. (vitamins). I agree that meat is healthy and i eat meat (i am not a vegetarian). Although if you feel becoming a vegetarian will make you feel better, go ahead, but if you start it, you must stick with it. GOOD LUCK!!!
Show her the facts, thats the best way.Show her you want to be vegetarian and that it is not just a phase you are going through.show her these facts
MYTH: "Humans were designed to eat meat."
FACT: Although humans are capable of digesting meat, human anatomy clearly favors a diet of plant foods. Our digestive systems are similar to those of the other plant-eaters and totally unlike those of carnivores. The argument that humans are carnivores because we possess "canine" teeth ignores the fact that other plant-eaters have "canine" teeth, and that ONLY plant-eaters have molar teeth. Finally, if humans were designed to eat meat, we wouldn't suffer from heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and osteoporosis from doing so. [more on this topic]
MYTH: "Vegetarians get little protein."
FACT: Plant foods offer abundant protein. Vegetables are around 23% protein on average, beans 28%, grains 13%, and even fruit has 5.5%. For comparison, human breast milk is only 5% (designed for the time in our lives when our protein needs are as high as they'll ever be). The US Recommended Daily Allowance is 8%, and the World Health Organization recommends 4.5%. [more on this topic, inc. chart]
MYTH: "Beans are a good source of protein."
FACT: There is no such thing as a special "source of protein" because all foods -- even plants -- have plentiful protein. You might as well say "Food is a good source of protein". In any event, beans (28%) don't average much more protein per calorie than common vegetables (23%). [more on this topic, inc. chart]
MYTH: "Meat protein is better than plant protein. You have to combine plant foods to make the protein just as good."
FACT: This myth was popularized in the 1971 book Diet for a Small Planet and has no basis in fact. The author of the book admitted nearly twenty years ago that she made a mistake (in the 1982 edition of the same book). [more on this topic]
MYTH: "Milk is necessary for strong bones."
FACT: McDougall: "Where does a cow or an elephant get the calcium needed to grow its huge bones? From plants, of course. Only plants. … People in Asia and Africa who consume no milk products after they're weaned from their mother's breast grow perfectly healthy skeletons in the normal size for their race. A consistent conclusion published in the scientific literature is clear: Calcium deficiency of dietary origin is unknown in humans. Dairy products contain large amounts of animal proteins. This excess protein removes calcium from the body by way of the kidneys. Knowing the physiological effects on calcium metabolism of eating excess protein explains why societies with the highest intakes of meat and dairy products--the United States, England, Israel, Finland, and Sweden--also show the highest rates of osteoporosis, the disease of bone-thinning."
MYTH: "Vegans are at high risk for Vitamin B12 deficiency."
FACT: McDougall: "B12 deficiency is rare… Two kinds have been observed. The more common is due to malabsorption of this vitamin as a consequence of diseased conditions of the stomach or of the small intestine. It has nothing to do with the amount of B12 present in the diet, so it is treated with injections of B12. The other kind of B12 deficiency is found very rarely among people who take essentially no B12 in their diet. Less than a dozen cases of this type of B12 deficiency have been reported among the tens of millions of vegetarians in the world. One reason it's so uncommon is that B12 is made by the bacteria naturally present in the human mouth and intestines.… [In addition,] the average American has stored so much B12 in his body's tissues… that twenty to thirty years must pass before you run out of it." McDougall notes that anyone with concerns about B12 can simply take a supplement on occasion.

You don't need your parents help - just stop eating meat. You must have more food in the house than just meat; I'm sure there's bread, fruit, vegetables, pasta, yogurt, milk, nuts, beans, eggs or cereal in your house - eat that.
Girl same here. I mean u need to eat vegetables but it really doesnt matter it is what u believe in. U go!
I want to be a vegetarian too but my mom said thatI need to eat meat and mostly meat cause they think I am skinny ....

It give alot of helpful info on being a Veg and staying healthy.
Has your mom not seen the recent study that links red meat to breast cancer in women? Also, red meat is loaded with cholesterol and makes people fat. I ate a mostly vegetarian diet for over a year. I've never had more energy then I did at that time. I felt so great. I lost weight but not drastically. It was a gradual thing and I still looked healthy. If you eat a balanced diet you do not need meat. My skin and my hair looked wonderful! They've never looked better. Everything you get from meat can be found from other sources. I'm pregnant with my third child and I eat meat because 1)I crave it like crazy when I'm pregnant and 2) I can't keep my iron levels up and I cannot keep iron pills down But once this baby is here I'm back to eating no red meat and very little of any other type of meat.
My main reason for cutting meat is the fact that the animals are pumped full of toxic chemicals that we then ingest. Not healthy! Our family lives on natural foods. We avoid boxed foods and anything containing preservatives and other chemicals. Your mom is a nurse but I bet there are prepackaged foods in your house that contain hydrogenated oils (trans fat) and high fructose corn syrup. Does anyone in your family drink soda? Being a nurse does not make one an expert on nutrition. My mom-in-law is a nurse and drinks diet coke like it is water!! That is not healthy at all. She also gets fast food for dinner most nights.
Maybe you could offer to cook a few nights a week. Or research vegetarian recipes and suggest a few to your mom that might be good to try. I have an excellent recipe for broccoli quesadillas that everyone loves, not just vegetarians. Maybe compromise. Ask your mom if she'd be willing to limit meat recipes to just a few nights a week and you'll help her plan the other meals that will be vegetarian. Reassure her that it doesn't have to be weird and it doesn't mean you'll have to eat tofu. Even meat eaters do not need to eat it every night of the week.
Good luck!
