Why isn't peta against abortion?!

Question:

Why isn't peta against abortion?

Its killing a living being.

Answers:
I'd just like to point out that you're assuming everyone else defines life the same way that you do. Not everyone believes that embryos and young fetuses (remember most abortions occur no later than the first tremester) is truely alive. A lot of people believe that life begins at birth, not at conception. To say that abortion is killing a living being is oversimplfying a really complex subject. No one is pro-abortion per se, no one relishes the thought of having an abortion. The thing is that terminating a pregnancy has to be an option for women because, let's face it, sometimes pregancy occurs at a time in a woman's life when she really cannot raise a child. I don't mean to say that abortion is a matter of convience, I'm talking about young girls or victim's of rape who really cannot deal with raising a child under their circumstances. Women need to have full control over their bodies, and that includes the right to an abortion. The ultimate goal of the pro-choice community is to reduce the number of abortions, by helping women access contraceptives and the morning-after pill and by educating people about reproductive issues. From that perspective, a person who is pro-human rights (or animal rights) would support abortion as a vital part of a woman's right to control her life and her body.
That being said I'm sure the members of PETA have varying ideas about abortion, as well as various opinions on war and the death penalty.

Because it not furry.

Really PETA think all the problems would be solved it there just wasn't' any people in the world, except them of course. Because they are good people who only kill 70% of all pets dropped off at their shelter.

So I'm going to quit so I don't go off an a rant.

EDIT

I see I already have three thumbs down. Did I get a little too close to home with the PETA group? Maybe they don't like hearing the truth? And yes I have the FACTS to back up my statement, from PETA itself.

Here a site the sums it up for you.

People are animals too.

To ghost

Sorry for getting on my soapbox.

peta deals with animals not humans, cant really recall many animals that have gotten abortions

I don't know the answer but it's an excellent question and one that I think you should ask where we can get a real answer. I'd love to know what their response is. GOOD QUESTION!! really makes you think.

Because the animals have more rights, then us on this earth. lol

Because PETA is people for the ethical treatment of animals not people for the ethical treatment of people. They probably have a view on abortion but it doesn't affect what they do to help animals.

why should we be? members of peta are mainly concerned with ANIMAL rights. Some of us smoke, some of us don't; some are against abostion, some support it.

I personally don't support PETA and believe they're an extremist organization. Most animal rights organizations are against the suffering of animals used for human consumption and scientific evidence points to the fact that a fetus doesn't feel pain until the second trimester. Second to the point, a fetus is part of a woman's body and a woman has the right to choose whether she carries a pregnancy to term, while an animal is an autonomous being that has no choice about whether it is eaten by human beings.

They are animal rights activists.

Peta is not a human rights organization
