What vegetarian/ vegan dish should I bring to my family's thanksgiving dinner?!

Question:

What vegetarian/ vegan dish should I bring to my family's thanksgiving dinner?

It won't be just for me, about five other people in my family are vegetarian, too and I really want there to be something good. So far there's going to be salad, sweet potato casserole and broccoli and cheese for us to eat. And of course lots and lots of pies. Any other ideas?

And for those of you who eat meat and are likely to respond with some remark about how much they like turkey, just remember, I am not one of those people who goes around condemning people for eating meat. I would appreciate it if you would resepect my eating choices as I do yours(and really, I like turkey too, I just don't eat it...don't tell any other vegans, they would kill me)

Answers:
Vegetable Lasagne and they will be converted to vegetarian for ever.

'I would suggest a carrot and black bean stew... they're delicious!

green bean casserole is really good, yet still traditional, thats what I make at my family's thanksgiving meal. Just take green beans, fried onions, and a few other things,, look online fora really good recipe, just type in "grean bean casserole recipe" and google it, it should work

Southewestern bean stew is awesome, the recipe is on the weight watchers website.....HAPPY THANKSGIVING

if i were you i would bring a mixed veg carsol it is very simple to make i can of cream of musroom soup campell franks frieds oions ans mixed veg and bake at 350 for 1 hour

Traditional green bean casserole....on the back of the Frenchs fried onion rings package.

Garlic mashed or roasted potatoes...or potatoes roasted with an infused olive oil poured over them.

Mushrooms stuffed with cheese and broccoli, and baked.

OK well I do not eat red meet but I do eat turkey, so I might not be that great of a help. but my mother is bringing a green bean casserole. here are some recipes you could try,

the second site has a lot of vegan recipes. enjoy

I always make a fabulous cornbread dressing with chopped yellow squash, carrots, onions, garlic, peppers, cranberries and spiced and herbed nicely. I want to try a tofurkey this year too. I also like fresh green beans and mushrooms.

How about roasting acorn squash...cut in half and brush with butter and brown sugar...bake for about an hour until tender--delish, and really a great autumn dish.

It might compete with the turkey, but I love to have vegetarian lasagna for Thanksgiving, and it would be a taster option compared to salad and broccoli. :)

PIZZA!! For years a homemade whole wheat pizza was my contribution....delicious with broccoli, mushroom, onion, pepper toppings..... use real cheese or fake (yuck) cheese....

Stuffed Squash
Vegetarian friendly stuffing
Mashed potato casserole
Homemade baked mac and cheese

well maybe a indian rice dish

For something very different why not try a Vegetarian Haggis! Although that might sound like a contradiction in terms, they are very spicey and tasty and the ones that we buy from our local supermarket cook in the microwave in about 3 mins.

My [non-vegetarian] husband has even asked for this for the main Christmas meal this year.

Andi you are 'truly evil' ! Check the link below-I've been informed by a Scot that the stuff really is like a good haggis!

For more traditional contributions (and I'm stepping on other folks answers here)
Garlic mashed 'taters-no milk use veggie stock
veggie gravy-add a dash of Bourbon and the meat eaters love it
real home baked bread!
tofu 'turkey'
veggie soups-butternut squash fits the season
I never had the 'guts' to do a pizza but I like the idea!

apple pie

I love a veg stuffing. 10 cups of GOOD dry bread, 1cup each...diced carrots, celery, green apple or chestnuts or cranberries(or a mix of each) 1 cup of vegetable stock, 1 egg, or egg replacement, 1/2 stick butter, 1tbsp. poultry seasoning(which is just sage, thyme, parsley, and some rosemary(, or 1tsp. of each of the forementioned herbs. In a large pot cook butter(you can sub 3 tbs. of olive oil, if you prefer not to use butter)with vegetables and herbs, after 3 minutes, add 1/4 c. of stock, simmer 10 minutes. In a large bowl, mix egg and 1/4 c. of stock, 2tsp. of salt and 1tsp. of pepper, mix well and stir in bread cubes, add veggie mixture, put in a greased baking dish, and bake at 350 covered for 1 hour. After 1/2 hour, chech stuffing and add more stock if needed, you will have 1/2 cup left to "baste" with. good luck

If you're up for it how about a tofu turkey. I know I get tired of the same side dishes every year so the other veggies/vegans may be too!

My favorite Thanksgiving dish has always been green bean casserole.

Well, I am thinking of making this (it's called a cornbread casserole but is really kind of like a savoury pie with a cornbread crust and a vegetable/bean stew inside):

I was also thinking of doing a pumpkin ricotta lasagne - not very traditional but the pumpkin will give it a Thanksgiving feel. A Google search will reveal dozens of recipes.

You will also find a lot of great ideas on this website (including another cornbread pie):

You could also do a vegetarian stuffing if the regular stuffing won't be vegetarian; I know I would hate to miss out on the stuffing!
