Reasons for being a vegetarian?!

Question:

Reasons for being a vegetarian?

Answers:
There can be many:
- being vegetarian can be part of one's religion
- love for animals or living creatures in general
- some simply don't like the taste of meat
- some think it's not healthy
- some are scared of the several diseases associated with certain animals
- and then there are ones that have been brought up with it and can't even think about NOT being a vegetarian.

In my case, it would be a mixture of reasons stated above. :)

If not eating rotting animal flesh is not a good reason then I don't know what is.

According to the ADA, vegetarians are at lower risk for developing:

Heart disease

Colorectal, ovarian, and breast cancers

Diabetes

Obesity

Hypertension (high blood pressure)

This is because a healthy vegetarian diet is typically low in fat and high in fiber. However, even a vegetarian diet can be high in fat if it includes excessive amounts of fatty snack foods, fried foods, whole milk dairy products, and eggs. Therefore, a vegetarian diet, like any healthy diet, must be well planned in order to help prevent and treat certain diseases.

Well, you won't be eating animals. That's the only reason I can think of, but I love meat so I can't really tell you much else. Go to vegetarian websites. There are plenty. But don't mistaken it for Vegan. Vegan and Vegetarian are different.

Vegatarian-no meat
Vegan-no animal products at all, meat, dairy and they only use animal safe products.

I'm a vegetarian and its because i just started feeling guilty about eating animals. The slaughter is really horrible. I suppose saying "How would you like it if you were killed then eaten?" does make people think.

Nobody should not give pain to anybody. Because u like non-veg thats y they r killed , u r the reason for this killing.

1. A diet based on grains, vegetables, fruit is easier on the planet. Meat production requires a lot of resources (water, grains, carcass processing , waste disposal. Some fish species are overfished. Farm raised shrimp & fish lead to pollution and harm to wetlands/coastal areas.)
2. A vegetarian diet that limits consumption of eggs and dairy can be healthier - lower cholesterol intake & more fiber.
3. One can lower one's grocery bill. Meat & fish are relatively expensive sources of protein.

My uncle is a vegetarian for health reasons. He had his first heart attack at age 31. He's had 4 since then. He's now 61. His doctor told him to consider being a vegan because meat has a lot of fat and cholesterol. My uncle said that if it wasn't for his fruit and fiber way of life he'd be dead by now. I'm not a vegan, but I've cut way back on meat, especially red meat.

meat clogs the system

20% of the carbon dioxide released in the US is from cows.

75% of the grain produced in the US is for feeding livestock.

A meat-eater uses 4,000 gallons of water a day (because of all of it used to raise the animals). A vegitairian uses 300.

It's healthier and your skin looks better - Besides, who wants to eat meat injected with so many hormones, anyway?

I have to say that I needed to avoid greasy foods, so cutting out meat was my first option. I also limit my intake of cheese and some other foods. (IBS sucks)
After finding out about other peoples reasons, I have been very glad to have cut beef, pork and poultry out of my diet. I still sometimes eat seafood, but I'm starting to think twice about that.

People who are saying that non vegetarian r reason for killing animals i m asking them, dont u think that also plants have life their fruits and vegetables are alive when u plough them for satisfying ur hunger arent u responsible for killing them. Man was always a non vegetarian from the ancient time they kill big animals and had eat them as raw meat ( just watch discovery channel) so we r lucky that we can cook veg or non veg now be thankful to god for giving us food and its ones personal choice to have veg or nonveg food both have positive and negative effects.

I dont like eating meat. It doesnt feel right to me and it is not comfortable. It is not tasty and i havent eaten it for a while. Maybe because i took a break from it and i didnt like it anymore when i started eating it so i just became a vegetarian. I love animals and i cannot imagine eating their flesh, thats just cruel and it is not as nice as you think it is. Yes vegetables got lives, but they dont look so living to me. They are not the ones i hold in my hands and say, aaaaaaaaaw, to, i do that to little lambs and other farm animals that you people eat.

Some interesting write up on vegetarianism.

It is a healthier diet.

Only thing is that, if any one switches to vegetarian diet, they have to make sure that they are substituting other foods to supplement the meat protein, so they do not get certain deceases, it just a matter of learning how to eat and be vegitarian. It is also cheaper diet, for pound of vegitable I pay $0.64 a pound of good cut of fish or meat I pay from $4.xx to $16.00, the cheap kind still run $1.97 to $3.99 per pound. Pulses (Lintile, black eye beans.. ) are even cheper the run $0.39 or so per pound and make 2 pound of food when cooked (you soak them over night to make them soft and easey to cook). Takes less fuel to coock.

Keddney problem, and some forms of cancers problems can also be impacted positively, by becoming vegitarian.

I think that being vegitarian is not healthy
My resons:

You dont get all the things you need in your diet

You get the need for meat and get hungrer easliy

Also if you are abramic G-d said that Man shall have dominion over the earth,

I read a book on slaughterhouse practices and their key point was

"if your dog or cat was treated like this by anyone they would be thrown in jail and heavily fined for animal cruelty"

Since then, I can not and have not eaten meat of any kind. I grew up near a farm, and hearing the cows that have been seperated from their babies for slaughter, bleeting for the all night is enough to make you realize its not worth the guilt. Pigs have the intelligence of 3 year olds, and turkeys and chickens are horribly battered and abused by farmers and caretakers to the point of mental retardation so they won't be pecked.

makes me sick and I can't do it.

well im a vegetarian cuz i love animals & i dont like to eat them. i dont approve murder! & because at some point i started disliking meat. also because it is really sad hpw these animals are treated in the slaughter houses!!
