I will ask the Vegans again---do you declaw your cats???!
I will ask the Vegans again---do you declaw your cats???
I asked it before, but only non-vegans answered. Now I hear that true vegans don't keep pets.
Is that true?
And vegan cat owners- do you allow the vet to cut off your cat's toes to save your furniture???
If so--is that not hypocritical??
Answers:
I'm a vegan. (My cats are not. Cats cannot eat a vegan diet without having malnutrition--and possibly suffering permanent blindness. They need taurine, which comes from meat.)
'm owned by two cats. I do not condone nor have I ever condoned de-clawing cats. To declaw a cat their paw "fingertips" are cut to the first joint...it's something I've always felt is cruel. If someone doesn't want the cat to claw furniture, one teaches the cat not to do so and supplies alternatives for them to strop their claws on.
Cats are not toys, nor are they simply "pets." They are living people of the fur kind, and my house is kept for their convenience. I figure if someone wants a cat that doesn't shed, doesn't claw or scratch and never yowls at night, they should get a stuffed animal.
My opinion, fwiw.
No, I don't think they should dig the claws out. If you seen it done, you would never do that to any animal. It is sad and looks like it hurts! Do what you think is best though. I have 4 cats and they destroyed my leather couch!
well im vegetarian but i know a friend whos vegetarian and has a cat and she would never declaw a cat and neither would i , dnt work against mother nature

I know true vegans who own cats. It is kind of odd to be vegan and to have to feed your pet meat. I would personally not have a cat for this reason. Out of curiosity what is the reflation between vegans and declawing cats?
I don't have any cats...
I am a vegan, though i don't own a pet, and do feel like people shouldn't have pets. Yet i could understand giving shelter/sanctuary to animals.
My aunt (who is not veg) has cats that have been declawed and it's one of the reasons she gets worried and chases them, when one of the cats gets's outside the door.
I agree that removal would be painfull. Also, like i the line before, if a cat that's been declawed goes outside, they has no way to defend themselves.
I would get furnishing isn't expensive and/or is cat proof. Also maybe you could keep the cat(s) out of certain rooms.
Also there is vegan catfood without Animal products. There is a couple of different brands thought their names escape me. They can only be bought on the net or at specialty store, though. One of them you can even make up yourself with their bulk ingrediants. I'm pretty sure PETA has a link to one, possibley listed with vegan dogfood. They are somewhat controversial, because they have to add certain vitamins like taurine and b12.
it is sooo hypocritical!
why wouldn't you?!
True vegans don't keep pets?Who'd you hear that from. Why do you care so much,it has nothing to do with you.No, I do not declaw my cat,she has her own scratch post, and I don't declaw my dogs. That is not animal cruelty, some guy beating his dog because it won't sit or rollover is much worse. And I answered your question last time also.
the word "declaw" you mentioned in your question is SO cruel! Your question is hypocritical, why do you point your finger to vegans?
Nah, vegans keep pets, yet PETA encourages children to keep your pets indoors at all times and not let them outside because they'll die in ten minutes of too much heat or something.
vegan, and i don't declaw mine!
i think the not having pets thing was something instillled in vegans through peta. and i beleive it only concerns non domesticated pets, exotic birds etc..
i know they mean all pets, but i see it as dogs and cats are so domesticed and in this day and age, if we didn't keepe them as pets i'm sure some dumb redneck would think it a good idea to use them as food. or they'd be over populating the streets and such.
i don't think it's un vegan to have pets.
it's un vegan to wear leather shoes though!
