Answers:
Not all vegetarians choose the lifestyle because of ethical or moral reasons. Some of them do it for health.

In that case, it is easier for a person used to eating bacon (but has been told by their doctor to cut out high fat bacon) to choose a vegetarian option that is called "soy bacon" or "smart bacon." These vegetarians may need a little extra help transitioning to a meat-free lifestyle, and food manufacturers are more than willing to lend a hand by naming their products "X ground beef" "X burger" "X chicken" etc.

people are just used to calling them foods like that so why change the name of it

I don't think the vegetarian world really came up with it. They're just familiar names for foods that people would recognize. I am far more inclined to buy Smart bacon , then "smoked soy strips." It certainly has nothign to do with smarts, my friend. BTW, it is Meatless Ground Soy, not meatless ground meat.

Why do we call hamburgers, HAMburgers when there's no ham? This is more prevalent in society & not many question it. Do you?

LOL.. I think because it's what we know..burgers or such. How can the product be "related" to, It's to be helpful to the consumer.

hey pepsi is still pepsi, what about the diabetics or people who arer health conscious who want pepsi, they call it diet pepsi, should it be called something else.I understand your logic though.I don't like meat so why would I want to eat something that looks like it.But whatev,it is good for something simple or familiar like a tofu chili dog and good for people making the transition.

not sure. i guess it 'couse the whole world is use to calling it near it's original name so why change it so much?
but good qustion.

OH Gosh You can call Soy patties burgers there isn't a rule if it's only Ground beef you have to call it a burger. I don't really like hamburgers anyways nor soy patties so I don't know anything that much about it. Tofukey is named that because it's shaped like a turkey in the mold. I am not a strict vegan or veggie however, I know what these terms are.

It's trying to take something strange, ( like soy or tofu) and make it fit into the traditional mold. It makes the food look non-threatening. The way you described the food, I wouldn't want to eat it, and I'm a vegan.

A "burger" in essence has never been a type of animal in name. I never heard of a "burger farm" where they slaughter "burgers". There are many types that include turkey, beef and veggie burgers. The term 'burger' has not been copyrighted by the beef industry has it?

burgers dont necessarily mean meat.
the other things because they are supposed to resemble and be substitutes for meat. so if someone is looking for a substitute for turkey, they can see tofurkey and go "hey, that looks like a substitute for turkey"
it's also better for the meat eaters if you are cooking something that sounds familiar to them
