you have been eating meat a very long time you cant stop eating it because you eat it 24/7 and it's like a hobby. i think that is why though:-)
Most species and of coarse humans have been eating meat since we have been able to record time.
Why would you want to stop? are you stupid or soemthing?
vegetarians have no longer life span than meat eaters it s all in the genetics of your family
because we ominvores it is the way we are make
Because eating meat is a natural and healthy thing. Just do it in moderation.
WHY??
Would you want to give up meat??
You got me thinking of a garlic spiced filet mignon, medium rare with blue cheese melted over it, topped with sauted onions and mushrooms.
Darn you!!!

depends. Why are you trying to become a vegetarian? If it's because you feel it's healthier, yeah don't go there. White meat (note I didn't say meat in general, red meat is horrible for you) is very beneficial to the body. If it's because you feel that it's cruel to eat animals, then it should be easier to stop. You need to step back and think, why am I trying to do this? also, tell your family to stop, that it's just not funny. There's not much else I can tell ya. good luck!
i'm not sure either of us can. We were born with incisors.
probably you grew up eating meat as a main part of the meal..I mean even if i tried for 1 wk with veg ONLY, made me loss appetite, just eat what your tastebuds like.. as long as they aren't junk food.As a religionous faith I should abstein from beef, but I need Iron so try getting a balance of meat(pork/chicken/beef) fish and seafood if possible otherwise anything goes.
Don't worry life is too short eat what you can now,don't wait till it's too late to enjoy food you love
If you keep eating meat and cannot stop, then perhaps a vegetarian lifestyle is not for you. Some people just LIKE meat.
As for your family members, ask them to respect your choice and stop being childish about it. But if you are trying to succeed at changing your eating habits just to prove to someone else that you can do it, that's the wrong reason to be changing.
Sad but true: families are the worst saboteurs when it comes to a family member going on a diet, or trying to quit smoking (or whatever). So, next time one of them says something, ask them why they are trying to sabotage your intentions, and why they think they have the right to.
you are probably use to meat. Susie
take a protein supplement it will help with the cravings a little
To answer your question, I believe your family is not helping you by suggesting McDonald's. You need to find some support from vegitarian groups on what to do in those situations with your family.
everything happens trough the power of your will..
if your willpower is not strong enough then it wont happen.
Research shows people eat according to their blood type. I am O-Positive and I love to eat red meat. Look around for this research and see if it explains your eating behaviors.
BTW, do yourself a favor and don't eat anything at McD's or similar establishments!
just get over the "hump" once you stop for a while it gets easier. If you cave in don't give up. Don't eat in the same room with people eatting meat at first. Dont buy meat (then you wont have it to cook). talk to you family honestly, if they respect you they wont keep trying to tempt you to do something you don't want to.
soy (fake meat) is really good for you. eat one of those when you crave real meat.
Why would you want to stop eating meat? It is a healthful food, and balanced in amino acids, which many vegetarian diets are not. Furthermore, a vegetarian diet does not contain vitamin B-12, which is essential to health.
If you a blood type O, then meat is your thing.

You are having a difficult time giving up meat because of a few realistic reasons:
1) God created your body to need protein to function properly. If you aren't getting enough, you will crave it.
2) It sounds like you grew up eating meat (since your family members seem to be on a different page than you about the whole vegan thing). Old habits are hard to break, and it goes back to the fact that your body is used to getting the protein and other nutrients that it needs.
If you are going to live a vegetarian lifestyle, go to a good healthfood store and get a protein supplement and a good multivitamin to keep your levels up to par. Don't let your health suffer because you are trying to make a point.
This is not only about the way we raise the animals for our meals, it's all about the world food crisis... the cereals we use to feed animals that will feed us western people (with our once-a-day meat) could be used to feed every human being on this planet instead; it's a global economical, environmental and social choice to stop eating meat, or at least come back to the "once-a-week" of our grandparents..
we can live with the proteins contained in some vegetables and cereals; an important part of hindous people live a veg way of life, since a long, long time... stop telling we need meat! this is only conditionnement!
No, cos you are born to have eating meat. Do ask your family to
respect your decision to cook non-meat meal for you. It is not so
easy to kick away the habit of eating meat...but, gu luck to you!!!
wow, lots of commenters weren't helpful at all.
so, what i suggest is to find some really nice recipes and then make them.
if you like things like nachos and tacos, then make them without the meat, but putting in beans instead, which will healp for your protein.
think about why you are being vegetarian. if you have any pets, try to imagine what it would be like for it to be your food. guarnteed you wont want to eat meat.
go to some veg communities (like on Livejournal.com). people are much more supportive than seemingly those here. you'll not only get support, but also ideas for recipes and how to tell your family and friends to back off and why yu are doing what you are doing.
you basically dont need supplements if you eat right. look in to nutrition and where to find it in vegetarian foods.
if you have a craving for meat, it may be because you are craving some vitamin you are lacking. when you crave meat, maybe you need protein, so eat some beans or tofu or something.
think about what is behind your feeling like you want to eat meat.
dont let pressure get to you.
if people pester you, reply in a calm way saying it's what you want to do and they should respect you for that. else jab them in the eye with a fork...
Try to see very disgusting meat or eat it before cook.u will feel disgusting
Go to peta.com and watch the videos. Garunteed to put u off for ever. Or goveg.com Also garunteed to put u off for ever. Or you could simply go to meat.org and watch all goveg.coms videos in one
1)You grew up eating meat.It may be hard to stop doing something when you are different from everyone in your house.I got lunch money from my parents everyday or had my own money and rode my skateboard to the store and bought a foods I could eat,or went to subway and bought an all veggie sandwich.Or I look for something in our pantry I could eat,like fruits and veggies,peanutbutter and jelly,beans and rice,you know really simple stuff.My family eats vegan one day out of the week,and I always cook that meal,so maybe you can cook for your family once a week or something.
2)I don't know if you like the taste of meat or not or if you crave it.But everyonce in a while I'll have a vegan version of something old I used to eat,like chili dogs,I'll use vegetarian chili beans and a tofu hotdog and it is pretty much the same as the real thing.So if you crave meat then you can try doing that.Or on the day you feel like having a hamburger,have a hamburger,if you have 1 hamburger that doesn't stop your goal towards being a vegetarian,if you keep doing that you cravings will get further and further apart until they are eventually gone.
3)The most difficult thing in your situation would probably be your family.I know because I went through the same thing.My family thought it was weird,they always thought I was on a diet(I don't even have much weight I could lose,I wasn't even chubby or fat)I get grossed out each time i see my family eat fast food,it is so gross and unhealthy for you.just watch SUPER SIZE ME,or the movie FAST FOOD NATION,which just came out.Think about that if you want Mcd's or when your family is eating it.
4)Learn how to cook.Before I could only microwave foods,now I'm practilly a better a cook than my mom.I make my own recipes and foods up,I also modify "American" favorites,like spaghetti,nachos,tacos and burritos,and pizza to make them vegan friendly.I also cook most of the foods I will eat during the week on the weekends,so when I get hungry or when I come home from school I can just put it in the microwave and eat it.
5)I don't know if you are old enough to have your driver's license or not,but once I got mine it made it SO MUCH EASIER.Now I can go out and buy my own food and not stuck at home with an empty pantry and leftovers in the fridge.
6)The last thing I did that can help you out is to plan what foods you eat out.
here's my eating plan for the weekdays,on the weekends it easier for me to cook or buy food
b.fast=fruit smoothie and toast or baggel with jelly(since your veggie you can have eggs or cereal with milk)
snack=nuts(almonds,sunflower seeds,cashews,any knids of nuts)
lunch=pb & j or something simple
snack=raw fruits or veggies
dinner=whatever I cooked on the weekend(stuff like spaghetti,veggie spring rolls,beans and rice)
I hope that helped you out.
you haven't yet gotten out of the habit, it takes time. There are meat subsitutes made out of soy and for more flavor, you might try Bragg's amino acids.they sell it at Kroger and probably other grocery stores. don't let your family get you down, you need to decide for yourself how you will live and tell them to support you instead of dictating to you. It wouldn't hurt to buy a recipe book with vegetarian or vegan recipes and share some with your family
For every person on here that has made comments about protein coming from meat. There are loads of perfect complete proteins vegans and vegetarians have. Meat raises acidity in the blood so your bones release stored calcium to balance your blood PH. This causes osteoporosis.
For everyone who said that our teeth are designed to eat meat, I would recommend you try and chase and kill an animal using only your teeth... don't forget to try and bite through the leathery skin of cattle that is the hardest ;)
Anyone who says they care about animals and still eats animals is lying to themselves.
Some great protein choices totally animal free are Tofu, beans, rice, wholegrains. There is protein in almost everything! - even potatoes :)
If you must visit McDonalds why not go for a veggieburger?
If you keep to your decision to give up the flesh your friends will respect you even if they tease you at first.
In terms of healthy living, almost every "fad" diet these days tells you to quit the meat and dairy because it is the most healthy option. If you crave meat get some great meat substitues in the house at all times that way you will always have something on hand to help you along.
Good luck and ignore these stupid people on here using god as an excuse to support an industry which kills billions of animals every year. Not to mention the amount of people hospitalised with bowel cancer and other meat related illnesses!
i would guess you were raised on meat. i was too. it has tooken me three years to become a vegetrian 'couse my family would do the same thing and then my friends would diss on me about it. it just sounds like you need some insperation and i can show you stuff that REALLY got me to avoid meat!
go to peta2.com and go to "peta tv" make sure you watch "free me" and "what they never told you" and watch some other videos they have.
it's horrible isn't it?
good luck and try hard to avoid those dead animals on your table!!!!!
I have never tried to become vegetarian but once i stayed away from meat for a week and it was hard. For me when i watched those PETA videos i didn't feel bad for the animals i actually started laughing when they threw the chickens around. it didn't even make me feel bad. people think things like that are bad well things like that are happening to humans. In the Dafur in Africa there is a genocide. There are children dying from starvation they are so skinny im amazed they are not dead. Some have no parents or anyone to go to and have to live in boxes and small shacks. We should worry about them. Im not saying we should not worry about cruelty towards animals but animals are not as important as humans.
you are a weak man
plz, be a strong man
Well, one thing tell them that MCd's are not that Healthy and you shouldn't be pressured what you don't want to eat. I do want to say I am more of a veggie eater then meat eater but, I eat meats on occasion. Right now I am anemic so I need to eat the meats that have iron in them. I am thankful also if we have meats and sides in the house it's food. I am not all the way veggie but, I am into veggie and vegan and Organic foods.
