Food Question??

I am looking to try to become a vegetarian. I have tried 3 times before, but I always break it! Any suggestions on how to not break it will help...

Well, does grossing yourself out help?
Before gnawing on a piece of flesh...
Think of what happened to the animal to end up on the table.
Remember that the animal was a living breathing being with feelings and senses.... and someone murdered it.
Consider the cleanliness (or lack of) in slaughterhouses.
Imagine the critter's eyes... before and after death.
Think about the animal flesh 'rotting' in your intestines because it takes the body so long to digest)
Too dramatic???

How about buying the meat "substitutes" (i.e. veggie burgers) and having them on hand, ready to make.
Make sure your food choices have flavour and variety (spices and ethnic flavours like sauces may help)
Look forward to trying new tasty veggie meals.
Embrace the idea of cooking with whole grains and legumes.
Realize there are so many choices, information and help out there.
If you're gonna do it do it already! (said in a positive tone!)

Think aobut how important it is 2 U. give morals & health a thought again. talk 2 any vegetarians U may know

Look at why you broke it the last three times. Is there anything you can do to not let it happen again? Is it cravings? Is it the convience of just giving in to what is offered? Try to be smart and figure out a way to get around this.

Just keep eating vegetarian for a while.On the day you feel like having a hamburger,have a hamburger.I'm sure soon enough your cravings will get farther and farther away until they are gone.Don't be afraid to try new foods,i've eaten many ethnic cusines,like indian food.Just be adventorous and give it a try.If you want fast food go to taco bell and get bean burritos or go to subway and get a Veggie Delight sandwich.Buy a cook book and try some of the recipes,or make up some of your own.Just get creative with your food to stay motivated.

first, try to get support. my family doesn't support my vegetrianisim (they adore meat), so i've gotten my friends to help me (even though they declare i'm crazy for giving up meat) or go to the source link-lots of inspration (watch the peta tv....after watching all that i don't think i could ever touch a burger again.)
also, try to focus on everything food BUT meat. when you go to a buffet pretend the meat is not even there...walk right past it...no matter how good it smells.

are you breaking it because you are craving meat? Try meat substitutes, they are amazing! I love them! Also just remember your ethics and morals. If you find yourself staring down at a steak, use common sense and remind yourself that it is flesh!

I agree with Molly and Gigi. I've known several folks that were helped along with the analogs (the original name for meat subs).

You might consider locating a local meat packing plant that does on site slaughtering. The smells, sounds and sights you experience help quite a bit.

Just keep trying and don't think of it as "cheating" when you do slip, just reward yourself after all the days you are successful! I'm going through the same thing as you with my transition from lacto-ovo to Vegan (though I have failed more than three attempts). One thing that helped me was cookbooks and an internet search for recipes. If you can develop a love of vegetarian cooking, you won't want to touch the other stuff. Good luck!

The Food Revolution by John Robbins. www.ravediet.com (buy book and DVD). Meet your Meat DVD from PETA (free). Don't beat yourself up for slip ups. Any reduction of meat eating saves lives in the big picture. It's not all or nothing. It's better to be mostly vegetarian than all non-veg. If you can't go all the way, allow yourself meat once a month or only on holidays or some such thing.
