What's an easy transition to becoming a vegeterian?!

Question:

What's an easy transition to becoming a vegeterian?

My boyfriend and I want to try going vegetarian for health purposes and are having trouble starting it up. It's kinda hard just doing it cold turkey so anyone have any suggestions or experiences of their own? I would appreciate it!

Answers:
If you sincerely believe in going vegetarian do it one step at a time, but don't go back!

In the first place give up red meat, that's steak, burger or anything else with red meat in it. Find alternatives and start eating other foods to replace that gap.

Once your diet feels normal and you are doing fine without red meat give up the next type of meat group, this may be pork or poultry, then do the same again.

Overtime you learn more about food, nutrition, diet and health and replacing both the tastes and nutrients provided from meat are easily achievable.

I discovered, when I was 4 yrs old, that meat came from animals and decided to stop eating them.

Since then I have learned more about diet and health and become stricter year by year. Now I'm a Vegan.

I call it Progressive Vegetarian.

I am vegitarian and for me it was very easy because at that time i was only eating chicken so i found yummy subsitutions to my chicken cravings. So my advice is to stop eating one meat at a time. Thats the easiest way

well stop eating meat for a long time eat vegetables and fruits, and eat and make healthy foods

well stop eating meat for a long time eat vegetables and fruits and try asian food like indian food

I'd try some of those soy-based meat substitutes; maybe wait a little while until you're actually desperate enough to want to.

If they don't appeal, don't keep eating them. To me, it looks a bit like giving a starving dog a rubber bone -- but they might add a bit of texture.

Just concentrate on the already-vegetarian dishes you really enjoy; don't immediately worry about making your diet perfectly balanced, or you'll just end up frustrated from trying to eat well and eat meatless at the same time.
Tip: lasagna always makes life easier.

You could cut down on your meat portions gradually - that will get you use to eating less meat and more vegies. You might also just want to eliminate certain meats at first, and then slowly eliminate others. My other suggestion - find some meat substitutes. There are vegetarian versions of chicken and the like, which you might like to try (I haven't tried most of them). There are some really nice soy sausages on the market. Here in Australia, there is also a company that manufactures vegetable sausages (no skin - simply compressed into sausage form), and vegetable patties. These patties are delicious, and my husband (who does still eat free-range, organic meat occassionally) loves these vegetarian versions.

Lastly, you mentioned becoming vegetarian for health reasons. I don't know what exactly your health reason is, but perhaps you don't need to totally eliminate meat. Perhaps a mostly vegetarian diet would suit, and you occassionally have meat. If you still want to eat some meat - choose free-range, organic meats.

When i became a veggie, I didn't not intend to.. I actually was looking on line and saw how animals were slaughtered and how they were prepared.. ever since I saw that I have not been able to eat meat.. so albeit a graphic way.. it may work for you... just look on line about how animals are slaughtered and processed...
