At lunch today a bat got into the restaurant and the manager took a tray.....?
and slammed it against the wall, it made me angry and i suggested to him opening the doors and ushering the animal out that way, unharmed....instead the bat flew into the back and an employee came out with a plastic garbage bag with the dead animal in it. Anything I can do about that, or is it pretty much over and done with? Can I call anyone, or report it somewhere?
I am asking here as there is no other Vegan area, that I have found.

I am a bit confused...was this question about abortion? I am sure not, its about animal rights, your answer Mags has no relevance here.

I am blown away by the "take legal action!" sorts of answers here.
Anybody running a restaurant is going to panic when faced with a rodent inside the restaurant.
None of that is to say that bats aren't useful creatures, and it does seem rather ridiculous to not just've ushered it out with said tray.
It's over and done with, sorry to say. Don't embarrass yourself by getting anywhere near PETA, as suggested. (Heaven knows PETA kills plenty of animals itself. It may well have considered a bat in a restaurant to be one of its euthanasia candidates.) All you could do, usefully, would be to send the restaurant some information on the usefulness of bats, so to speak, and the best ways to safely corral them and escort them out.
It also makes me wonder what sort of filthy place this was. That's not a roach he's smushing with his shoe; that's a disgusting mess, much more unsanitary than just having the bat in there in the first place. (Charitably, I am imagining that the manager panicked.) If it is otherwise unclean, that'd be where you could muck-rake on on-line restaurant review sites.
In the UK bats are protected species so you could report them to the RSPCA
i truthfully don't know if there is anything u can do about that but what they did was stupid! & i would definitely find out if there is something that can punish them for it!
tell ur local humane society....& maybe alert PETA about the abuse??? im not quite sure. if u haden't already told the mamager, say that if he does the slightest thing to harm an animal again that ur gonna report him!!
i guess now, what's done is done but u may be able to prevent it from happening another time.
get over it! its just a bat, it has no feelings, soul, or intrinsic value.
You could take out an ad in a local paper to "review" this restaurant, and what you saw. These ads are usually free, there's also a spot on the computer where the town advertises it's businesses and you can put in a "good word."
write a letter
lol thats kinda funny. He should have just let it out killing it doesn't give his restaurant a good appeal especially since he used a cooking untensil to kill an animal that could have rabies or some disease. Not very sanitary. Unless you live somewhere where bats are protected by law nobody is going to care except for animal rights groups and they can't do anything besides boycott which doesn't work because when they boycott companies or businesses nobody else cares besides their members.
As unfortunate as it may be I am not sure this constitutes as animal abuse. Technically the manager could say he felt that he himself or his employees and customers were threatened by the creature and he felt that violent measures were to be taken. If you believe the animal was a protected species a call to the local animal services would be your best bet, unfortunately are you able to prove the species?
If not I've found the quickest way to hurt a restraint (and I used to work for one) is by word of mouth. Tell your coworkers friends neighbors strangers you meet on the street not to go to the restaurant hit them where it counts, in the wallet.
That is sad and disturbing. In a society of people who try to act like we care so much, when it comes down to it, the average person, thinks they are better than other animals. What makes you more "special" then that bat? Nothing. Who is to say that that bat did not lose it's habitat and was therefore trying to find a place to go, or was simply scared into the building. Humans can be the foulest, and nastiest species on the planet. I think that PETA should be informed so that all PETA members in your area can choose to boycott that resturant. Also, depending on where you are from it may constitute animal cruelty, but I doubt it. Sad, very sad. If it was we I would have walked out...
That is so sad...what's done is already done. Although it's animal cruelty, but no one can back you up. The bat does not belong to you. Although it's worth a try.
that is horrible!!!!! i would see if you can take legal action. if not, at least write an angry letter to the manager and refuse to eat there ever again. and tell all your friends so they dont either.
When all else fails KARMA will take care of the bat killer! In his next life he may be a tasty bat treat! LOL!
