Whats bootcamp/military like as a vegan or vegetarian?!

Question:

Whats bootcamp/military like as a vegan or vegetarian?

Is it possible to do like do they cook special vegan meals for you?

Answers:
Boot camp is about stripping you of your personality and making you one with the rest of your group, brigade, squad, etc. If you have a special dietary requirement, the military will assist you. If you have a special dietary preference, you will be singled out and driven into the ground. The drill sergeants will look for reasons to pick on you and the social implications that come with vegetarianism/vegan-ism are the antithesis of what boot camp looks to develop, namely meat-eatin' masculinity.

My recommendation is to try to pick which foods you eat but be willing to do what is asked of you. Once out of training, most mess halls have enough veggies for you to survive. They probably aren't cooked to vegan standard though.

I agree. When you are in basic and AIT, you won't have much say so in how you eat. And the fact that you are given 3 minutes to eat doesn't allow you to pick and choose. Also, the military is feeding you the meals that they do for a reason. You need an average of 4,500 calories a day during basic because of the intense training and lack of sleep. But again agreeing, once out of basic and AIT, and you get to your duty station (if active duty) you will be able to make it fine. Good luck

Yes..there usually are vegetarian MRE's.
