I have a question about vegetarians?!
I have a question about vegetarians?
my friend is a vegetarian (she is only 10). even tho she is a vegetarian, she still eats shrimp and fish. isn't sea food considered meat? (not counting seaweed or whatever)
Answers:
A person can call herself whatever she wants, but that does not mean that she is right. A vegetarian abstains from all meat, including the meat of sea creatures. Your friend could be more properly termed a "Pescatarian," because she includes fish in her diet.
Contrary to some of the previous posts, no actual "vegetarian" eats fish, chicken, or any other former-animal. The only major "types" of vegetarians are regular vegetarians, who usually include egg and/or dairy products in their diets, and strict vegetarians (AKA "Vegans"), who abstain from eating/wearing/or otherwise using any animal products whatsoever.
Source(s):
I am vegan.
no fish and chicken are not considered meat to some vegetarians but there are a few different type of them
yes but its white meat n they can only eat white meat
There's "vegetarians", and then there's hardcore VEGETARIANS. I think your friend is only a "vegetarian." The whole point of vegetarianism, I thought, was to respect the lives of animals as conscious beings. And yes, I assume that shrimp and fish are meat, because if you have a whale that eats just shrimp, he is definitely a carnivore. Hardcore vegetarians also abstain from even eating dairy products and eggs.
There are different types of vegetarians. Some eat no animal products whatsoever, some still drink milk, some still eat eggs, and it is common for them to still eat fish also. This comes from way back the Catholic Church differentiated between what they called "warm" meats (beef, chicken, etc) and "cold" meats (fish and water animals.
Unlike mammals, fish and shell fish don' t feel "pain" as such when they are caught and killed. they are more like insects in that regard.
sea food is meat because its sea meat ok hope that answers ur question
Your friend is not a vegetarian, by definition a vegetarian only consumes food from plant sources.
anyone who eats any animal (sea, land, insect, or otherwise) is not a vegatarian. A vegatarian does not eat meat but will still eat eggs and dairy products that come from animals. Your friend is NOT a vegatarian! This is simply a trendy thing to say for some reason. (a vegan eats no animal product or bi-products what so ever).
well.....some classifies eating sea food is vegetrianism but i think that FLESH IS STILL FLESH
get it?
later!
Actually, fish CAN feel pain.. (fishinghurts.com) Anyways, she is a pesci-tarian.
some vegeterians dont eat fish, and some do, my cousin is one and i dont think he eats fish
A true vegetarian does not eat *any* meat, regardless of where it came from. It's all or nothing. Wishy-washy answers like "Wellllll, I just eat the white meat from a chicken" are just plain stupid. As you can see from the responses in this forum, there are a lot of vegetarian wannabes here who, for some reason, feel guilty about the meat that they do eat, so they try to change the rules as they go to fit what is convenient for them. They try to have it both ways, but that's just not possible.
She is consider a vegetarian, not a vegan.
Real, true vegetarians do not eat any meat at all. Don't believe me? Look it up in any dictionary.

Okay, "FLESH IS STILL FLESH", but what about eating the meat? There's a huge difference in "eating flesh" and enjoying a scrumptious shrimp cocktail, because essentially, you'd peel the shrimp thus removing the actual "flesh".
So technically, seafood COULD be vegetarian if vegetatarianism is defined as eating "animal flesh". The same goes for a nice sea bass or mako shark. No-one REALLY eats the flesh.
It seems to me that many vegetarians have a different definition of what THEIR brand of vegetarianism includes, and it reminds me of religious denominations.
By the proper definition, your friend is not a vegetarian.. as vegetarians don't eat any meat at all. I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian, which means I don't eat ANY meat, but I do eat milk and eggs (and other dairy products without animal products, such as vegetarian cheese and some yoghurts - many ordinary cheeses and yoghurts contain stuff like rennet & gelatine, which if you do a search on you'll find aren't exactly vegetarian! So I don't eat marshmallows or jellybeans either...).
You may also come across lacto-vegetarians, who eat milk but don't eat eggs or meat, etc... and someone who doesn't eat any parts of animals OR products that come from animals (no milk, eggs, don't even think they eat honey...) is referred to as a vegan.
I'm not sure if there's a proper word for people who just eat white meats, but it seems to be pretty common these days - so yes, seafood IS considered meat so your friend isn't a proper vegetarian, but I suppose she can call herself whatever she likes... and it's probably a lot easier and faster to say 'vegetarian' than to explain that she does eat this and doesn't eat that.. etc
There are varying levels of vegetarianism. Some of us don't eat any meat at all and others of us eat fish but now other types of meat. Your friend is still growing and really does need protein to help repair her muscles every day. If she chooses to eat fish and shrimp that is just fine.
Yes it is meat. It's good that she's reducing her meat, but she isn't a vegetarian.
She is a pescetarian - a person who eats no other meat than seafood.
I think that you can figure out who is right and who isn't by simply looking at the thumbs up & thumbs down given to the answers, some of which are amazingly stupid.
For the record, as several others have said, vegetarians do not consume the flesh of any creature from the animal kingdom, or any of by-products that result from the death of said animals. Contrary to what one person said, sea creatures *are* in the animal kingdom and contrary to what another said, they *do* feel pain. Actually, most sea creatures have quite complex nervous systems. People obviously make stuff up to justify their actions without ever bothering to find out the truth.
So, a true vegetarian by definition of the word, does not consume shrimp or fish. Aside from the killing of these animals being horrid, there is something called by-catch that also needs to be considered. By-catch frequently includes dolphins, sea turtles, whales, seals & sea lions, sharks, gulls, birds, and other entities that one may not traditionally eat. By-catch are species that are 'accidentally' caught by the fishing gear. Whether that's as the boat reels in the line or the net or whether it's from the lines and gear they discard, all of these deaths are from 'fishing', 'shrimping', 'crabbing', or similar hunting techniques. So when you eat a shrimp; a dolphin, a sardine, a rockfish, a sea turtle, and other marine animals have also been sacrificed for that shrimp.
my mum is a vegetarian
and she eats fish.
i dont think it is ameet
Yes, animals like fish and shrimp are still fleshes, and still disgusting, and vegetarians don't eat them.
Silly little girl, vegetarians are just weak-willed vegans.
Your friend is not a vegetarian.
Why do so many people who don't know the answer always show themselves up with this regular question ?
There is no such thing as part/hardocore/demi or any other such nonsense. You are either veggie, or not. its simple.
she's not a vegetarian, you need to tell her.
As she's only 10 we'll forgive her this once, she's making a great effort. But please tell her that veggies don't eat fish or chicken.
Here's the definition:
A vegetarian is someone living on a diet of grains, pulses, nuts, seeds, vegetables and fruits with or without the use of dairy products and eggs (preferably free-range).
A vegetarian does not eat any meat, poultry, game, fish, shellfish or crustacea, or slaughter by-products such as gelatine or animal fats.
Its really sad thats it the same people time and again who still say "i'm veggie and eat fish"....will they never learn....i guess fish being brain food is another meat myth.....look at all the thurmbs down you fish eaters....will you ever learn....
Yes, seafood is meat. Your friend is not a vegeterian.
She is probably calling herself a vegeterian because she is young and doesn't understand the definition of being a vegeterian.
