my cousin is fat i mean really fat but shes 100% vegan no meat or anything yet shes huge why

she presumably is either eating the wrong foods not excercising or simply just eating too much encourage her to do something about it being vastly overwieght is likely to seriously shorten her life and sometimes make her miserable get her doctor to get her to see a dietician etc

its probably heriditary, or she eats way too much junkfood.

if not the above, then check it out with her doctor or physician

she is probly subsituting meat with sugary foods i don't know why people assume all vegans/vegetarians are thin

I've been vegetarian for 31yrs now.

I retired 2yrs ago from a job that kept me on my feet all day and have gone from 210 to 295... but I'm a big guy anyway and at 6'4" an I don't look fat.

There DEFINITELY is an exercise component to staying in the normal body fat zone.

No matter what you eat, if you take in more calories than you burn, your gonna get fat.

I'm back at the gym for weights and cardio now... and I'm enjoying it.

I would suggest to she place an exercise bike in front of the TV, that's a great way to breeze through some easy cardio.

Do I detect a level of smugness here? Isn't she lucky to have such a supportive and understanding cousin. She's overweight for the same reason 99% of overweight people are overweight, she eats too much and doesn't exercise enough. It doesn't make her worthy of derision though.

Too many calories + not enough exercise = overweight.

Simple fact of life, I'm afraid.

Well, that kind of throws the "eating meat makes you fat" logic out the window....

.... either that, or she's not REALLY a vegetarian...

Just because she is vegan, that does not imply that she lives off of fruits and veggies and exercises every day. There are many types of candy, cookies, chips, etc. in your average grocery store that are "accidentally vegan." She is just as susceptible to over-indulgence and lack of exercise as anyone else could be. I'll tell you one thing, though--she is eating a cholesterol-free diet, so, at the very least, she is probably reasonably healthy internally.

Also, she was probably heavy before she became vegan, right? A vegan diet will not make all of the weight melt off, if she is still eating over 2,000 calories a day or something.

Maybe too much food in her new vegan diet then nune the less she could be big boned.Well if she tries Some Good exercise she might begin to losea few pounds

She consumes more colories than she burns, end of story.

There are tons of junk food that can be considered vegan. People get obese because they take in more calories then they spend.

Tell her to stick to wholegrains rather than refined (ie wholewheat pasta, brown rice rather than white) and to cut out all sugary foods and deserts. It's actually quite easy to gain weight on a veggie diet if you aren't exercising, due to the amount of grains you often eat. It can be easily resolved by cutting out sugar and refined starch, and telling her to exercise reguarly. It's a fact whatever diet you're on that you need to exercise. Also, warn her not to over-rely on processed vegetarian meals ie sausages, and instead start making meals from scratch using beans and lentils, which are very healthy and low in calories.
