It's up to an individual to decided upon their limits as far as their diet and belief system goes. To each their own is a motto I live by. I've been a vegetarian for over a decade now and have never forced my set of beliefs on others. If your mother forces you to eat fish, then talk to her about why you choose not to. You might want to bring her some information about fish and educate her about how they are sentient beings. In the meantime, my advice to you is to simply not judge others.

im a vegetarian as well..the pressure to eat what others want you to gets overwhelming...

beans nuts and anything with protein are fine for a veg. my brother makes fun of my for my new life style he says why eat veggies when they once were a living thing...but i just ignore him...but kfc tortures their chicken! you can go to www.peta2.com for info...well i think i got that right :) and whats wrong with starburst? i dont understand that part

well someone who eats fish is actually a pescatarian. but does it really matter?
a vegetarian is someone who does not eat meat.
so it's ok to have starbursts, as they are not made out of meat.
i am not a vegetarian but dont normally eat meat.

it is up to the individual to decide on what they eat in their diet. there is no right way to be a vegetarian.

For those of you who asked about starburst... pretty sure they have gelatin.

Same with Skittles.

Watch out for Frosted Shredded Wheat cereal and Pop-Tarts.... (yeah, and all this time I thought... hey, good for you, at least you're eating breakfast... but, I was sadly mistaken)

Read labels people! Don't assume!

Saves you a bit of heartache. :)

Why is it OK to eat vegetables?

Frankly, I think vegetarianism is the primary form of racism.

just it all out of your systom...just let it go, girl, take deep breaths and just smile at them.

1) Anyone who eats fewer animals is doing the world a favor, try not to be too critical but let her know about the meat content of what she eats.
2) Try talking to your mom about nutrition and contaminants in fish. My son wanted to go vegetarian when in high school but I did not permit it, as I was responsible and also did not have enough information on the subject to be sure he would be adequately nourished on that kind of diet. Your mom just may need more information, she's just trying to do right by you.
Also lots of places when I ask if there is meat in a casserole and they say no, no meat, but I taste it and there is some fish in there. People who are not vegetarian may honestly be confused about what you eat, you need to be helpful to them not the other way around - you are the leader here!
