Bacon sandwiches, what's the vegetarian equivalent?!

Question:

Bacon sandwiches, what's the vegetarian equivalent?

I ask because I've known a few vegetarians who have really missed eating bacon sandwiches since turning veggie.

I couldn't imagine living without a bacon sarnie and brown sauce.

you can buy yeast strips but it defeats the object of the exercise doesn't it?

the bread

i think its called ' bread and butter ' :)

Several companies make a vegetarian fake bacon that you fry in slices. Morningstar is one of the brands. It tastes pretty good and is lower in fat and calories than real bacon. Makes a delicious "BLT."

And "Bacos" are also vegetarian for uses like salads and sprinkling on things.

There is veggie bacon in the health food section of some stores made probably from soy.

Beans and lentils or salads and vegetables

"bacon sarnie and brown sauce"?? What the hell countryy are you from?? Anyway..........I've been veg for 8 yrs. now and I do not miss BLT's.....The equivilant to me is a nice tomato sandwich. I'm not even a big mayo fan though, so no, I don't miss bacon sandwiches.

There's always vegetarian bacon. I prefer morningstar products in general. I do know they have vegetarian bacon. But there are many other brands available.

These products are usually found in the freezer section.

Quorn do a bacon veggie equivalent. I know as im a veggie myself!!!

2lb of smoked, home cured bacon was all it took for a veggie friend of 5 years to start eating meat again....
Bacon is like Kryptonite for so many veggies lol
THERE IS NO EQUIVALENT TO BACON its made from PORK...
NOT FUNGUS

There is a mock bacon out there in the deli made of sya beans and its very smokey and taste quite good but I think that when you are a vegie you find vegie favourites that replace pork

Personally I'd just eat the bacon :o)

Bacon sandwiches still

There are quite a few bacon alternatives for us veggies. Quorn and own brand supermarket equivalents. When i lived in Australia they had a lovely range of "not" products eg: not-bacon, not-chicken etc, though I always find it a little strange to have products that are trying to taste like meat but I suppose it's a way to keep the veggie of the family eating roughly the same meals as the rest of the family but with substitutes.

NOTHING and I am sooooooooo aga?nst meat subst?tutes - You dont see us carn?vores try?ng to make vegetable subst?tutes!

In the frozen food section of many supermarkets, you can get Quorn bacon slices which are really good. These are of course vegetarian substitutes...But they taste great, are better for you and you don't ever have to worry about gristle!!

Well, I'm not a vegetarian, but I love a roasted pepper and mozarella and basil toastie.
That's what I'd have if I couldn't eat bacon.

There isn't one - absolutely not.

The vegetarian equivalent to a bacon sandwich would be a chicken or fish sandwich. This way you can enjoy complete protein in a sandwich with eating bacon. Chicken and fish are still considered vegetarian.

Thisi is the one I know. It is quite tasty. Easily found in stores:

A bacon sandwich?? Never heard of that. Anyway, Lightlife and morningstar farms both make a "breakfast strip". I make BLT's with them.

Quorn do or used to do a bacon substitute as do Sainsbury's. This is actually very good as are Sainsbury/s Hot Dogs. It is surprising what you can get isn't it?

Go to the frozen food section of the store and you will find, vegetarian bacon... As well as burgers, breakfast sausage, corn dogs, ground beef, chicken patties, ribs, etc.

Thats easy. Use vegetarian bacon instead. Problem solved.

Ron should win the thread.

That was clever. Well done!

Quorn 'bacon style' rashers.

Morningstar has a great bacon substitute for vegetarians.

And chicken and fish are NOT vegetarian - vegetarians do not eat any meat whatsoever.

"Vegetarianism is the practice of not consuming meat, with or without the use of other animal derivatives, such as dairy products or eggs. Some vegetarians choose to also refrain from wearing clothing involving the death of animals, such as leather, silk and fur. Veganism, sometimes called "strict vegetarianism", excludes all animal products from diet and attire, whether or not this involves the actual death of an animal (dairy, eggs, honey, wool and down feathers)."

Morning Star's bacon strips are delicious, i have made it for my sons friends who are meat eaters and they loved it.

Quorn are the king of vegetarian foods. Their products are often so good you can't tell them apart from their meat counterparts.
