What is Tofu?!

Question:

What is Tofu?

I have never tried it. What does it taste like? Why would I want to eat it?

Answers:
Tofu is a meat substitute made from soybean curds. It's taste will depend largely on it's preparation. It is an excellent replacement for meat and is one of the healthier substitutes on the market. Wonderful in pies, casseroles, as a base for "soyscream", sandwich fillings, etc. My all-time dinner favourite is tofu in pineapple sauce with rice & peas and a garden salad.

gross! haha but its bean something or other. its good for you i hear espec. if you are a vegetarian, protien or something...

hi, tofu is kind of cheese or paneer made up of soyabean milk.it is bland to taste so its used in gravy along with vegetables or in soups. then its good to taste.its highly nutritious.very good for growing kids.

It's squid jelly, and its actually really, really good. The jelly comes from the inside of its stomach after the fishers or restaraunts cut off the tentacles in order to make the calamari. Tofu originated in Greece.

Tofu is beancurd. It is made by coagulating soy milk and pressing the resulting curds. It tastes like... hmm... well it doesn't really have a taste, so it would be good to eat it with soy sauce, or with something rather than alone. I like tofu, and I eat it because it has lots of protein, and because it's healthy. Um, it just tastes like nothing else. You can make it taste great by adding marinades and such, but that's all I can really tell you.

We're not sure... Honestly, it's made out of soy. There are different varieties of with different degrees of hardness and softness etc. It can be made into hotdogs too. To tell you the truth, I find it really gross and bland, like mushy cardboard, but a lot of people do actually like it and can make good meals with it.

Tofu is made from soybeans, it is high in protein, and can be used almost anywhere you would use meat as long as you replace it with the right textured tofu. For example it can be used in stir fries, but you might prefer to use the extra firm tofu, you can crumble the firm tofu onto salad, you can make fried rice with firm tofu and vegetables, you can also use soft tofu to make cheese cakes and smoothies, yum! My personal favourite is called agadashi tofu it is deep fried tofu, you can get it at almost any sushi restaurant. It was the first tofu I tried and liked, it really opened my eyes.

Tofu is made out of soybeans and is high in phytoestrogens and also contains amino acids. Soy beans are a rich source of calcium, iron, zinc, phosphorus, magnesium, B-vitamins, omega 3 fatty acids and fibre. Tofu is also a good source of protein.

It is very good for your health. A few of the benefits are: preventing male pattern baldness, reducing menopause symptoms, aiding heart health and bone health, preventing cancer.

It has a smooth light taste. You don't usually eat plain tofu on its own, you cook it with other foods or marinate it.

Tofu really doesn't taste bad. In fact it hardly tastes like anything. So it soaks up the flavors of any other foods or spices you cook it with. Be aware there are two schools of thought on tofu - it's very good for you, or it's bad for you (phytoestrogens and trypsin inhibitors). Moderation is the key here. I'd say it's definitely healthier than meat, in comparable amounts. Include a grain with it for a complete protein.
