Why do some products put on their label "Organic Maple syrup/sugar?!

Question:

Why do some products put on their label "Organic Maple syrup/sugar?

Isn't a tree organic by nature? Why would they include the word organic?

Answers:
Confusion often arises because there are three ways of defining organic.

1. Chemical: anything containing carbon is organic. Includes most pesticides.

2. Biological: anything from a living thing is organic

3. Agricultural: something that is 'natural' .

The third definition is used for organic foods. It means no artificial chemicals were used in growing the tree or extracting/processing the syrup.

No artifical fertilizers or pesticides were used for the Maple Tree's care.

Organic is just a fancy way of saying all natural ingredients. Of course a tree is organic but the process from which they extract the maple syrup can included several synthetic elements.
