Why did you become vegetarian: Morals, Health, or Religion?!

Question:

Why did you become vegetarian: Morals, Health, or Religion?

I'm just curious what's the biggest reason people decide to become vegetarian: for moral reasons (you think it's wrong to eat animals), for health reasons (you just think a vegetarian diet is healthier then one that includes meats), or religious (your religion prohibits, or discourages, eating meat).

Answers:
Many reasons

1) I have serious anxiety issues and my doctor recommended minimizing my meat intake because it increases anxiety

2) To get one hamburger you need enough grain to make bread for a whole lot of starving children

3) The treatment of animals in a lot of slaughterhouses is cruel

4) my religion (fairly conservative Christianity) teaches self-denial and abstaining from meat is one of the ways I practice this teaching

So umm.... all of the above...

when i was about 13, me and my friend went to glasgow and there was a demo on about animal testing and they had all the usual horrible pics with animals being abused for the sake of make-up etc. it really turned my stomache and i vowed right there and then that they woulden't be breed to feed me or to make me look nice. but before that i could not stand the smell of my mum cooking liver. there living the same as us!

Most people dont eat meat because they think its wrong to eat animals but my dad stop eating meat because when he was in college the meat wasn't to good im talking it was green and spoiled at least that's what he said

moral reasons

moral ( the way animals are slaughtered, it is disgusting)

i became a vegetarian because i think meat is bloody and gross. i whent to goveg.com (a peta websight, i think peta is too extreme but whatever) and the pictures they had of how animals were treated is so sad and gross. i dont think animals should be raised just to be eaten, but it is a personal choice

Well I never really was big on eating meat..also I was raised an Orthodox Jew..& my older cousion was a vegatration & I love animals..so like for all those reasons..

Morals. . why eat other animals? would you like it if a animal killed and ate you for no reason?!

i did it for moral i did a report on vegetarians and i watched a video on all the big meat animals i had to watch them get slaughtered and i learned about bactirea that are in the food and all the diseases i would be at risk of getting with meat(salmonella and arthritis are 2 major health problems people actually get from eating meat another big one is diabetes) you may also be at higher risks for heart problems

Meet make me sick... animal abuse in factory farms make me sick......a dead animal in my plate makes me sick......AND eating animals makes people thousands odf people sick from food born illness every year!!!!!!!

I'm a vegatarian for a whole crapload of reasons. First of all I don't like red meat at all. I find it insanely disgusting. Secondly I am a major animal lover and if you make me think about what I'm eating I can't eat it. And lasty the thing that made me become a full blown vegetarian is that I read a book about meat-packing industries that completely sickened me and I will never touch another peice of meat again.

It started out as general overall health. After I escaped the gore of meat preparation (which I hated) I realized that it was actually a more morally sound lifestyle for me as well.

Moral and health

Religion

moral reasons...y would u want to eat something that had a face

I am an orthodox Christian, so I know that the Lord Jesus Christ Himself killed the first animal. [Its skin was used to clothe Adam and the woman. Genesis 3:21] And of course there's that passage in Acts where the Lord told Peter to eat meat. So I have no moral issue with it. However, the meat market is a total scam! Most people need very little protein in our diets, and even less from animals. It is for this reason only that I am attempting to delete most animal protein from my diet. It is just not healthy to eat much protein from animals. There are other disadvantages also. I'm hoping that my carnivorous habits are what has made me fat and that changing to an almost-vegetarian diet will help me slim down.

When I was a little baby depending on my mom for food it was because of religion. When I was a teen it was because of morals since I felt that morality and discipline at that stage leads to a happier life later on. Now nearing 30 its because of health reasons. In the end I feel it is a combination of reaons not just one and everyday I feel more glad for making the right choices.
