If you are a vegetarian but eat some sort of meats are you still a vegetarian?!
If you are a vegetarian but eat some sort of meats are you still a vegetarian?
My friend eats meats from a farm thats not mass produced, steriod infested meat, that is killed humanely. Is she a vegetarian?
As well, my other firend eats fish and chicken. Can she still be classified as one?
And as for me, I don't eat meat period and I feel a little chated knowing that my efforts are going to waste when these so called 'vegetarians' are calling themselves that when they eat meat.
But, if they do it some types of meats, but not all, are they still somewhat of a vegetarian?
Thanks!
Answers:
No, your friend is not a vegetarian, just a person who chooses carefully the kind of meat she eats.
Your other friend is just a person who avoids red meat.
Vegetarians don't eat dead animals, period.
no, nyet, no, no
No, vegetarians don't ANY meat or fish at all. It doesn't matter where the meat came from, that doesn't justify eating it and calling yourself vegetarian.
well this is how they classify:
Vegan: excludes animal flesh (meat, poultry, fish and seafood), animal products (eggs and dairy), and usually excludes honey and the wearing and use of animal products (leather, silk, wool, lanolin, gelatin...).
The major vegan societies all disallow honey, but some "vegans" still use it. Some "vegans" also refuse to eat yeast products.
Vegetarian: For the purpose of membership of IVU, vegetarianism includes veganism and is defined as the practice of not eating meat, poultry or fish or their by-products, with or without the use of dairy products or eggs.
Often broken down further into OVO-LACTO, and LACTO. Vegetarians may or may not try and minimize their non food use of animals like vegans.
Ovo-Lacto Vegetarian: same as VEGAN (see right), but also eats eggs and milk products. This is the most 'popular' form of Vegetarianism in many Western countries..
Lacto Vegetarian: Same as VEGAN, but also eats milk products
Semi-Vegetarian: Eats less meat than average person. See also PSEUDO-VEGETARIAN.
Pseudo-Vegetarian: Claims to be vegetarian, but isn't. Often used by VEGETARIANS to describe SEMI-VEGETARIANs, and PESCETARIANs.
Pescetarian: Similar to VEGETARIAN, but also consumes fish. (often is a person avoiding factory-farming techniques...) See also PSEUDO-VEGETARIAN.
Fruitarian: Same as VEGAN, but only eats foods that don't kill the plant (apples can be picked without killing plant, carrots cannot).
Vegetable Consumer: Means anyone who consumes vegetables. Not necessarily a VEGETARIAN.
Herbivore: Mainly eats grass or plants. Not necessarily a VEGETARIAN.
Plant-Eater: Mainly eats plants. Not necessarily a VEGETARIAN.
Nonmeat-Eater: Does not eat meat. Most definitions do not consider fish, fowl or seafood to be meat. Animal fats and oils, bonemeal and skin are not considered meat.
Kosher: Made according to a complex set of Jewish dietary laws. Does not imply VEGAN in any case. Does not imply OVO-LACTO VEGETARIAN in any case. Even KOSHER products containing milk products may contain some types of animals which are not considered 'meat'.
Pareve/Parve: One category in KOSHER dietary laws. Made without meat or milk products or their derivatives. Eggs and true fish are pareve, shellfish are not.
Nondairy: Does not have enough percentage of milkfat to be called dairy. May actually contain milk or milk derivatives.
Nonmeat: Made without meat. May include eggs, milk, cheese. Sometimes even included animal fats, seafood, fish, fowl.
Vegetarians don't eat ANY animals- dead or otherwise. They also stay away from animal products such as milk eggs cheese and yogurt. Someone who consumes fish or poultry isn't vegan at all. They are just not red meat eaters. I happen to like beef, its the only reason I am not a vegetarian. But I do not eat eggs, because in my mind its a chicken embryo. I do not drink milk because milk is made for babies. I don't eat fish- cause I just don't like it. The only meats I eat are beef, chicken and lamb, but I couldn't be considered a vegetarian... see what I am getting at? you friend is an OMNIVORE.
No that's meat
NO if they meat then they cant call themselves a vegetarian the root is vegetables
meaning that they eat everythin but meat and vegans are just fruits veggies and grains(rice, pastas, etc.) no meat no fish tell them that cuz theyre using that term so incorrect that its makin me sick
no, if you eat ANY meat at all, no matter how humanely it is killed, you are not a vegetarian. it is better that it is not a mass-producing farm, but if you cannot call yourself a veggie unless you dont eat meat. and your efforts are not going to waste! you have made a great decision to keep yourself healthier and to speak out against the brutal slaughter of animals! keep it up and dont worry about what other people are eating unless they criticize you about your diet.
I don't think your friends are vegetarian if they eat meat, period. I think they eat a vegetarian-based diet a certain percentage of the time, but they can't call themselves vegetarians.
your first friend is definitely not a vegetarian because she eats all types of meat, but your second friend is considered a pollo/pesco vegetarian.
pollo vegetarians do not eat red meat (beef, pork, etc.) and fish
but still eat poultry (chicken, turkey, etc.).
pesco vegetarians eat fish and avoid red meat and poultry.
usually people are only one of these types of vegetarian but she is a combination of the two. wikipedia and various other sites define both of these as semi-vegetarian diets.
i was a pollo vegetarian for over a year and considered myself a semi vegetarian. and for the past year and a half i have not had any meat and consider myself an full vegetarian now.
If your friends eat meat once in a while, they can be considered "Mostly Vegetarians" but not vegetarians in the pure sense. Meat, either red or white, is not considered a vegetable, and if you eat it, that breaks the principle that vegetarians don't eat meat.
On another note, congratulations on your effort to be a strict vegetarian, it does the word a lot of good.
ur first friend is not a vegetarian, sounds like she just east kosher
ur other friend may be classified as a pesco vegetarian but a lot of vegetarians dont believe you should call urself a vegetarian if u eat any kind of meat at all
i personally don not eat red meat, fish or poultry
No. You're a flexetarian or semi-vegetarian if you have "exceptions."
thats called free range. There is a name for it but it is deff not vegetarian. A vegetarian eats NO animal what so ever. Weather it was killed "humanely" or not.
yes they still are vegeterian
No, that's the flat answer. If you eat meat (including fowl) or fish, whatever its provenance, you're not a vegetarian.
i see your confusion. some say that if you eat only certain types of meat your still a vegetarian but me on the other hand don't think so. it's just like this: either your pregnet or your not.
you can't be inbetween. see my point?
also, if you look up "vegetariansim" or "vegetrian" it says that it is the practice or someone who is a HERBAVOR. meaning they eat only PLANTS.
take care ;)
Everyone is different I do eat eggs and I love Sushi but I don't eat chicken or red meat. I also don't drink milk but I love cheese. I call myself a vegetarian.
"If you are a vegetarian but eat some sort of meats are you still a vegetarian?"
-No.
"My friend eats meats from a farm thats not mass produced, steriod infested meat, that is killed humanely. Is she a vegetarian?"
- No. There are no special slaughterhouses for "happy meat". Farmers in the US are not allowed to sell meat to the public they slaughter themselfs.
"And as for me, I don't eat meat period and I feel a little chated knowing that my efforts are going to waste when these so called 'vegetarians' are calling themselves that when they eat meat."
- That why you should be a Vegan.
"But, if they do it some types of meats, but not all, are they still somewhat of a vegetarian?"
-No.
Vegetarians dont eat meat at all. Anyone that eats "any sort" are not any type of vegetarian.
There is no such thing as a semi vegetarian or a pollo/pesce vegetarian. Those are made up words.
