Kanten - it is based on agar-agar, which is made from plant sources. You can get kanten at Japanese or other ethnic Asian grocery stores.
I make my fruit jello with kanten all the time and it comes out great.

agar-agar flakes. You can find them at a health food store.

I have used arrowroot before but it depends what you are making I guess.....

?Apple sauce

?Bananas

?Aspic

?Kudzu

?Tofu

?Tofutti brand anything

?Agar-agar

?Arrowroot

?Cornstarch

?Try it without the gelatin!


P.S. No kosher gelatin-- it is made of stuff just as bad as normal gelatin.

Look for alternatives made from agar-agar or kuzu.
