My vegetarian Son needs something to drink!?!

Question:

My vegetarian Son needs something to drink!?

For health reasons my Son has started a vegetarian diet. The food is not the problem, it's the drinks. He's seven years old and loves drinks that include high fructose corn syrup. What can he have besides water or tea?

Answers:
Fresh juice is great, as are soy and other nondairy milks. There are flavored nondairy milks available. Chocolate almond milk is delicious, but there are other flavors like these soy and juice smoothies: http://www.tastethedream.com/products/ca... which are sweetened with evaporated cane juice, not high fructose corn syrup. Sure, they're still sweetened, but HFCS is especially bad for you-- your body can't process that much fructose very well.

A great alternative to traditional soda is mixing fruit juice and soda water. I do this with juices I find too sweet or strong on their own, like grape, apple, or pomegranate. If you want more sweetness, you could always add some agave nectar (which is much nicer to the bloodstream) or stevia.(an herbal sweetner, which is calorie-free).

Smoothies are also great, and easy to make up-- blend fresh or frozen fruit with juice or nondairy milk. To add creaminess, blend in a frozen banana. You can also hide greens in smoothies. The taste gets covered up, but you still get all the great vitamins. If you own a juicer, you can make vegetable/fruit juice blends that are much more palatable, in my opinion, than vegetable juice alone. I personally love carrot and orange juice. It hardly tastes like carrots (which I'm really not a huge fan of) but still full of their nutrients!

What about the v8 line of drinks.. They have the fruit drinks now. I'm not sure that would suit the purpose but its worth looking into.

sugar free koolaid; orange juice, sugar free soda with splenda...

Juicy Juice doesn't have added sugar, so that's a good choice. Also try giving him V8 or the V8 fusion or splash drinks. Those will give him some nutrients too.

V8

Crystal lite! It tastes like Kool-aide but its surgerless. My kids love it too.

Try the Bolthouse line of drink products in the specialty section or veg. section of your local supermarket. There is also "Arthurs" a line of drinks similar designed for vegetarians.

v8 drinks

Buy a juicer/blender and make homeade juice.
I'm a vegetarian and thats what I do.

A strawberry and banana shake is awesome.
Try your own favorite fruits.

I would check with your local health food store..you did not mention the medical condition...is it related to weight...PKU... the reason for the dietary change has a lot to do with what he can drink.

fresh juices , soy milk ( try flavored) ,

chocolate flavored soy milk is pretty yummy....

You could try Vitamin Water. I weaned my husband off Mountain Dew with this stuff. It's better than soft drinks but not quite as good as plain water. It's a start.

H2O.

V-8

chocolate soya milk (brand: sogood?)
