Question:

What is mono and diglycerids?

what is mono and diglycerids. where it is comes from... Animals OR Plans........do they use ANIMAL MONO AND DIGLYCERIDS in our food.... Is their anything from animals in food as preservative.

Answers:
Mono- and Diglycerides are common food additives used to blend together certain ingredients, such as oil and water, which would not otherwise blend well.

The commercial source may be either ANIMAL (cow- or hog-derived) or vegetable, and they may be synthetically made as well. They are often found in bakery products, beverages, ice cream, chewing gum, shortening, whipped toppings, margarine, and confections.

monoglyceride - one glycerol molecule attached to a fatty acid.

diglyceride - two glycerol molecules attached to a fatty acid

They're everywhere, lol. Be careful of your bread, too, they're in most breads and muffins and such. Yes, it can come from plants OR animals, and the only way to really know is to contact the company with a phone call or an e-mail and ask whether it's plant- or animal-derived.

Glycerin also works that way; can come from plants OR animals, and you have to inquire about it to know for sure.
