Are the little eyes that grow out of potatoes poisonous?
Answers:
I sure hope not! I don't often get them all off before using my potatoes. But now I'll do better, because I found out that "sprouted potato eyes contain a poisonous substance that may cause illness if eaten" http://msucares.com/lawn/garden/vegetabl...
Potatoe "eyes" are buds that will start the growth of a new plant. If you leave a potatoe in your pantry for a few weeks you will see the new growth begin. You can cut the potatoe into
sections, each with an eye, and each will grow a new potatoe plant.
Furthermore, an entire potato can be life threatening: http://www.kidsource.com/kidsource/conte...
=)
No. Just cut 'em off and proceed!
No, they are the roots sprouting for the potato (which is a seed) to grow. Most people believe potatoes are better to bake once the eyes start to grow because they are more tender, only cut that part off becaues it looks kinda freaky and you don't want to eat roots.
nah they will see you through the day
no they are not ,the eyes are the root were the new growth will start,
Anything green on a potatoes is poisonous. Even the skins if green . There is not enought to kill you but it can give you a upset tummy
