Vegan: too extreme?!

Question:

Vegan: too extreme?

I have been convicted to become vegan for a while now and have been slowly trying to convert…but it’s hard. Especially when my husband is a huge carnivore. I told him I was going to cut out all meat, eggs, and dairy products, but continue to eat seafood. He called me a hypocrite! I don’t get any points if the only meat I eat is seafood? Does that have a name? Give me something, I’m trying here!

A good vegan diet is wonderful - HOWEVER, it requires you to think about food most of the time and it's hard socially (restaurants, parties). But, no, it's not too extreme and there are a lot of good books on the subject. I'm reacting to your mention that your husband called you a hypocrite.

I'd like to share my philosophy: I cut my losses where I can; reduce my impact where I can. I've been a vegetarian who also eats fish for years, but lately news of our killing the seas has me thinking twice on that issue. I call myself a "hypocritical vegetarian" because I eat fish. Nice helpful people have said, "no, your a pesca-vegetarian" which is very nice, but it's still hypocracy (but if I call myself a hypocrite, that makes it okay with me). Do your best and eat consciously and read and learn and understand your own needs and ecological values.

vegans dont eat any fish/seafood. srry. personally i think being a vegan is very extreme. some vegans dont make sure they are getting all the nutrients they need. as long as u are very very very very careful you should be okay.

vegan eat no animal product, which includes seafood. try vegetarianisim. their are diffrent types of them. i'm a lacto-ovto vegetrain. meaning i eat things like eggs (but not direct eggs, like omlets, just like, in cakes and stuff) and still eat dairy products (but not direct milk like cereal and a glass of milk. i'm going to try soy milk once i've gotten rid of all the milk i have now)

luck!

eating fish is cruel to fish. i'm a big ole carnivore so i'm not judging you. my parents are lacto ovo vegetarians. that means nothing with a face, but dairy products and eggs are ok. i think vegan is extreme and hard to be healthy on. LO veggies like my parents are healthy. raw food is an extreme diet.

it is extreme, but do what you feel happy with :)

Good job on the effort...

Why do you need a name or points?

You should feel good about the difference you are making for yourself, not for everyone else to judge you.

And no.... I wouldn't say vegan is too extreme... That's what I'm shooting for, slowly.

If you will continue eating seafood, then you're a pesco vegetarian, not vegan.

Personally, I admire vegans. I'm a vegetarian, but I'm looking foward to become a vegan in the future. Being a vegan isn't easy, specially in the society we live in, and if your husband is a carnivore, it's even harder. To be a vegan is not only cutting all the animal products that you eat, but EVERY SINGLE animal product, and that includes leather, wool, silk, cosmetics that aren't animal friendly...
