How many Calories does a Vegetarian consume a day?!


Question:

How many Calories does a Vegetarian consume a day?

And if so, do Vegetarians need to take multivitamins everyday? I asked because I'm tired of the smell of meat and I"m tired of eating it. I only want to eat Fruit and Veggies along with Nuts. Yes I know that their is Soy Products but I can't eat that right now.

how ever many calories you want to eat in day. not all the veggies got together one day and said we all need to eat a certain number of calories. eat what makes you feel healthy and not overly full.
try making dishes using black beans or tofu as a meat substitute. 100% healthy.

As far as calories go, I'm not sure. I knew a girl that was a vegetarian and yes she did take a multivitamin. She ate a lot of peanut butter too.

Well, just eating fruits and nuts and veggies might not provide enough calories. If you're not thinking of going vegan, would you consider drinking milk? Are you allergic to soy? Also, why not add bread to that as well?

Or you could increase your calories by adding high fat food to low fat ones... like adding peanut butter to apples or bananas or celeries. Or try eating veggies with vegetarian-friendly condiments like hummus?

As for the miltivitamin, I've heard giving up meat lowers your intake of some B vitamins, although I'm pretty sure you could make up for it by consuming fortified cereals and stuff. Taking a general multivitamin is good for anyone, vegetarian or omnivore.

I eat less then 1,000 calories a day and I take multivitamins everyday. just make sure you dont stop eating meat and replace it with junk food.

If your trying to lose weight eat 1200-1600 & if your at a normal weight eat at least 2000 calories to maintain your weight. Vegetarians can eat just as many calories as everyone else. It just depends on what your health goals are...

it totally depends on the person and what they are eating in place of meat as to how many calories they're getting. I personally eat around 1,000 a day and I'm a vegetarian. I do take multivitamins but I don't take them because I'm a vegetarian. You don't HAVE to take multivitamins, but they're a good idea; vegetarian or not. Also, taking protein supplements may be necessary for being a vegetarian (i take them at times) If you're going to become a veg, I'd consider eating more than just fruits and veggies. I'd add in some carbs in there. Good luck though :)

Unless you are trying to lose weight eat 2000 cal/day. Don't forget to include some legumes such as beans, lentils or chicpeas. You don't have to eat soy. Nuts are fatty. The fats are good for you, but not huge quantities. Beans and bean products won't be as gassy for you if you don't eat them as processed soy burgers. Chew thoroughly with grains. Don't eat with lots of sugars/fruits.
