Violation Notice: Over-sensitive Vegans.?!
Violation Notice: Over-sensitive Vegans.?
I have just received a violation notice from some vegan who objected to my opinion. Why am I not surprised that this has happened? Could it be that my statement regarding vegans always thinking that they are right and everyone else wrong could actually be correct?
Answers:
Well, if you are what you eat, then a lot of people who come here act like they've been eating horsemeat -- or at least part of the horse, anyway.
They don't come to this forum to ask legitimate questions about the vegetarian and vegan lifestyles. They come here to insult and harass, and then they act wounded and innocent when someone slams them or reports them.
I'm not saying that's true in your case, but please try to see it from the perspective of the vegan who's been under attack. Returning anger with anger isn't the best approach by any means, but unfortunately, it's bound to happen.
And "vegans always thinking they are right and everyone else wrong" is a honkin' huge generalization, if ever I heard one. Stereotyping tends to irritate a lot of people, so that could explain why you were reported.
Maybe the way to avoid violation notices is to discuss the issues with honesty but also with the attitude that the other guy is entitled to his opinion, lifestyle, and emotions, too. Just a thought.
Well havent you just answered your own question
There are some very touchy people on this forum and the most natural and innocent postings end up getting a violation order. I get one every day and I shake my head wondering how on earth does that cause offence.
I guess that you just need to be careful about tarring all vegans with the same brush. I am sure that some think they are always right (as do some meat eaters) but others are very happy to listen to other peoples opinions and accept that they are not always right. I don't think anyone should try and force their views onto anybody else but I can understand people getting defensive if their views are aggresively questioned.
they proved your point!
Don't know what your question was, but people shouldn't report you just because they don't agree with you!
I know exactly what you mean - I received a violation notice for pointing out that the sharp pointy teeth at the front of your mouth were for tearing flesh.
What is the point of an answers site if only certain answers are acceptable, regardless of the truth? And if people don't like my abrasive style, well, they can just ignore it, can't they?
As it stands, it seems that Yahoo pull answers regardless of whether they are right or wrong if there is a complaint made - the assumption seems to be that the complainant is always in the right.
The problem is that the longer Yahoo answers does this, the more lop-sided it will become, as sundry special interest groups realise they can have dissenting views removed regardless of factual accuracy simply by complaining.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that the same approach that lead to the burning of books in Nazi Germany?
I've gotten reported for saying I'd never report anything. This is an open forum, people are bound to disagree. Nobody can say anything here that would prompt me to report. I just can't get that worked up over things. Don't like it? Big deal, move on.
I will report Spam however. I don't know why but that really rubs me wrong.
It depends how you expressed your opinion. There is no way that any of the vegans I know, including myself, would assume they are always right and everyone else is wrong. However, if you put your opinion across in an insulting manner which claimed that vegans somehow had less intelligence than other yahoo users, then I'd expect some vegans may take offence at that, and may report you. I don't think anyone is automatically right just because of their diet choice but I do think everyone deserves a degree of respect without regard to their diet choice.
If you said something like "that's typical of a dumb vegan" or something similar, I can see why you might have been reported.
I just kinda think it's funny when I get a violation notice now. Shame about the loss of points though, but hey, it's all good fun!!
NO YOU'RE WRONG -
"..Could it be that my statement regarding vegans always thinking that they are right and everyone else wrong could actually be correct..."
Vegans don't think we're right.
VEGANS KNOW WE'RE RIGHT.
Wow.
I've had a few violations in my time. One I answered a question by an Irish guy who was being very rude about England. I told him to go f**k himself, I guess he reported me. And yet I don't go around thinking all Irish people think they're right all the time and are over-sensitive.
But your sweeping generalisation doesn't surprise me really, considering thats what the offending comment was in the first place. Why don't you try to stop judging a huge group of people until you've met them all, and then there would be no need for this conversation.
And as for what you said in the first place- Everyone think they're right in their lifestyle choices or else they wouldn't have made them. Veganism isn't easy- people do it because they care deeply about the cause. So yes, of course they think it is right.
Vegans are self satisfied smug gits who deserve shooting.
It is a thoroughly selfish life style choice designed to inconvenience as many people as possible.
NATURE INTENDED we be omnivores!!
(They probably try to make their cats vegan too!)
no, you will find that Vegans here are very sensitive because of the abuse of one particular poster.
Anyway, how do you know it wa a vegan that submitted the report, its anonymous.
Maybe it was me ?
Veganism is a cult and nothing more. Vegans don't care about animals, they just become vegans for the attention. If you have ever noticed, most vegans are misfits in general society.
To Patrick N, the person who is right below me. I have reported you. Please don't use this section to transmit hate speech. I have also reported you to an internet watchdog group.
Maybe you shouldn't go into the vegetarian/vegan group and say stupid crap about us!
Don't try to aggrivate people and you won't be reported.
Violation notices do not come from other members - they come from Yahoo!. So, right there your credibility leaves something to be desired.
This aside from not being able to categorize correctly and a blatant disregard for the nature of "Answers" (you know, asking questions) makes one wonder about your ethics. . .
I don't think the vegans are to blame for your problems. Perhaps it's time to stop blaming everyone else.
Maybe if the vegans are 'over-sensitive' enough, they'll get you banned and you'll be out of our hair. Go post in the appropriate section!!!!! Hint: The 'Vegetarian and Vegan' section is NOT the one for you, bub.
Can you elaborate a bit, what was this "opinion"?
They are closed minded and think everyone else is wrong no matter what. Just ignore vegans like that their opinions don't even matter. Just use this against them when they call you ignorant.
i am vegan and know that i am not always right, but most of us even you omivores think that you are always right/
I agree with you, I quoted a historical fact that a certain German dictator from WW2 was vegitarian and I got a violation!
think you just hit the nail on the head.
Crazy bunch of tree-hugging seed-suckers.....lol
violation city here i come

When you repeatedly see answers like these it gets to be pretty f*cking annoying.Wouldn't you be pissed if five PETA people gave you answers or responses aying meat eating is wrong or calling you a murderer?it is the same thing, except that people are doing that to us.yeah, some vegans/vegetarians are preachy, but do you know how many times I've asked a serious question and then get responses like "eat a bloody steak" or "vegans are treehuggers"
And reports are anonymous,so how do you know it was a vegan?
1) Because you came into a cookery forum trying to wind them up, possibly...
2) I don't think I can answer this, as
a) I'm not vegan and
b) I already answered one daft question for you.
Boo-hoo! My,my aren't you the touchy meat eater? Grow up and get over it.
As long as anything you said could not be seen as offensive then the notice is obviously wrong. I really think that tollerance is going out the window in society at the moment.
Rachel H basically said what I was about to say and said it in a much better way than I would've. I've been offended by many meat eaters but never did any violation notices because of that. I know I do make mistakes
don't intend to offend anyone but sometimes mentioning my views on vegetarianism seems
to offend some meat eaters.. I don't see the offense though! I am a vegetarian and healthier
than when I was a meat eater. Hope that last line don't offend You meat eaters! We're all different and we have the right to eat what we feel is right for us!
OVER-SENSITIVE VEGANS? are you not being a tad over sensitive yourself here.whyowhy do flesh eaters always get over sensitive when they find out some is a vegan or a veggie.? i do not have a problem with flesh eaters all my family are. I'm a veggie and my family do not have problem with it. just learn to live with it.
