Question for omnivores?!

Question:

Question for omnivores?

I'm not trying to offend anyone here. I just want to know something. I have met many people who say they love animals and they say this while eating their salmon or steak. This to me is a contradiction. Please explain the psychology involved. Is it that you don't know the cruelty behind meat, or don't care, or don't want to know, or what?

And to vegetarians/vegans, do you think this is a contradiction?

thats just the way the food chain works, is a lion eating a zebra cruel?

I love animals, but I will still eat them because I want the food, so I don't go hungry.

Tofu and bean paste just can't compare to a big juicy steak.

I love animals, but yes I eat certain ones too. That is life, animals provide us with food. I'm sure your fond of plants--but you eat them. That's just how it is.
I DO know what happens to animals. I have a friend who's a vegan/PETA member. But, really, I have to say it doesn't shock or bother me that much. Could it be more humane in some cases? I'm sure it could be.

girls like flowers but they still eat vegitables.

Some animals shouldn't be eaten while others are stupid.

I love animals... I care for my 3 dogs & 2 horses.

I also care for our chickens and sheep. And I love them marinated and grilled !! I also hunt: annual limit on turkey and deer. I'm not cruel... they are slaughtered with love and speed.

Yes, some mass-production beef and poultry farms are harsh and cruel. And I will protest that.

But my body requires protein; and fish, chicken, and beef are terrific and delicious sources !!

those people dont really make sense to me. i dont eat animals i love.

"do you think this is a contradiction?"

- Absolutely. It's like saying "I love this person, so I'm going to shoot them, or rape them." If two humans are involved it makes no sense. But if it's people and animals then its ok? I don't get it eaither.

YES, it's a contradiction!!! And it annoys me. It's impossible to love animals and eat them at the same time. You can love SOME animals, and eat OTHER animals that you DON'T love.

For example, if you're eating a piece of bacon, there is NOTHING you can say or do to convince me that you love the pig you're devouring. You would never eat the puppy you love so much, and you wouldn't eat the pig if you really loved it, either. So you love SOME animals, and you EAT others.

As far as reasons for it goes, I think it depends on the person. Some people don't know, some people know and don't CARE, and some people prefer to be ignorant so it doesn't "ruin their appetite". Odd, no?

Yeah I think that is contradiction,i'm sure 100% of people would never eat dog,but they won't even think twice before chowing down on steak and hamburgers or lambchops. What makes dogs so different?Maybe little kids don't realize it,when I was little I didn't think of the cow or ham as an animal,I saw it as a source of food, because you never really see it go from animal to ham or ground beef in a package, you only see the meat already packaged and just knew it a source of food. But when I finally put two and two together I had to stop, that's when I went vegan.I also lived on a farm with my grandparents,my grandpa had alot of animals,i thought that was how farming was done.Everyone thinks of farmers as a guy who owns a barn and does a bunch of labor, wakes up at the crack of dawn to feed all of the animals, but in reality most meats come from factory farms, with no actual farm or farmer, just butchers and handlers. No one is making a living off of the animals.Everything is highly mechanized and the animals don't even see the light of day.the image most people get of farming is Ol' mcdonald, you know,we all know that song, but the truth is there is no ol' man mcdonald.he has been replaced with hormones, antibiotics, machines, and cages.I think some people are also in denial too.I have a friend, she was talking about her party, her family was gonna have a whole pig(you know the cooked pig in a platter with the apple in it's mouth),,she started thinking about and she was all like aww, poor animal, and she didn't want to have it.a girl sitting by us was all like,no you shouldn't feel bad, then she said what if pigs were to take over the world and eat us?would you feel bad for them then? That came from a 17 year old girl.pigs taking over the earth?Okay.

I think it's a contradiction. It's as though they are choosing which animals are more important then others. Since the day we are born we are spoonfeed beliefs about what you need to eat to stay healthy, like cow is a normal thing to eat, etc. Yet in other cultures and countries a vegetarian diet is old and people live very healthy.

I don't really think it's individuals fault, I just think there is a lot of good compaining to believe eatting animal products is what you need to survive

Show me a vegan and I'll show you a face full of spots.

Look to the animal kingdom for an answer. The lion doesn't hate his prey. He loves his prey. The most effective hunter loves and respects the animal who sustains his life.

I love animals but I also believe that eating meat is healthy and natural for humans. I was a vegetarian for over two decades and I did serious damage to my health. After my personal experience and a great deal of research I no longer believe the propaganada and rhetoric that claims vegetarian diets are healthier or more natural for humans.

Most of the vegetarian arguments are emotional and not at all based in logic or fact. People believe them because they want to not because they are true. I know how that goes because I fell for the vegetarian rhetoric and I paid a steep price.
