Eggs have 4th june on will they be o.k to use today?!

Question:

Eggs have 4th june on will they be o.k to use today?

thank you x

Answers:
Absolutely.

Unfirtilised eggs are good for about 6 weeks.

The environemntal health guidelines state they should be used within 4 weeks. In a supermarket, the use-buy is normalyl set at 3 weeks to give them 1 week shelf life

But as you can see they are good for a couple of weeks after that.

How do i know ? We have lots of free range chickens and so are subject to the UK poultry register and DEFRA guidelines. Personaly, we wont sell eggs more that 2 days old. Partly because we can't meet local demand, but also because we feel 3 week old eggs are not really "fresh"

Its shocking how many people on here seem to blindly stick to BBE dates. When did we loose capacity to think for ourselves.

Personally I wouldn't risk it.

Yes

yes BBD were only put on produce as supermarkets open to increase the amount the sell! i use eggs way out of date and im still here! unless it looks mank (which it wont) go for it!

Yeah most likely they are okay. Crack them open to see what it looks like. If it looks odd, throw them away.

That should be a sell by date. They should be fine

i wouldnt bother because if you are thinking about this now and asking us what will you be thinking during dinner...

eggs is one thing i don't risk going past use by date.

Yes, they should be fine.

can you say "salmonella" ?

if theyve been in the fridge there good for a lot longer.

Yes. It's not like the eggs decided to spoil once the clock struck midnight. And they always put the expiry date earlier than it actually happens, to avoid potential liability issues.

I'm sure they'll be eggcellent.

Yeah, just smell one after you break it open to double-check. I would get rid of anything I don't use up today, though.

put them in a bowl of water..if they float then no if they sink then they are ok...

well i`d still eat them.

They're probably fine, especially if that's the sell-by date (not use-by date). To know for sure, put them in a bowl of water. Throw out any that float.

Yeah, they are fine. Nearly all dates on food can be extended a couple of days. I wouldnt recommend it with fish but anything else is ok.

yes ..its just over protectiveness ...... if they smell when cracked open , bin them ....sure you would do that even if the date was 11th June

pop the egg in a glass of water, if it sinks to the bottom it's fine, if it floats or doesnt sink at all - bin it.
should be ok if you kept it in the fridge.

I guess so but for the price of some fresh ones I wouldn't risk it. Fresh eggs taste much nicer anyway.

They'll be fine. I eat eggs up to a week past date and I'm alive!

They are fine as long as they have been in the fridge. You can usually be safe eating eggs a couple weeks after the expiration date.

That is the "sell by" date. That's the longest the farmer can guarantee peak freshness.
As long as they have been refrigerated the whole time, it should be fine to use them. Break them into a separate bowl first, instead of into your recipe, just to make sure.

My uncle was the dairy department manager in a supermarket for 10 years.

Yes, they will be fine. The date on the package is not the date they will start going rotten. It is the date that the manufacturer can absolutely guarantee their quality. One day past that date will not have any adverse effect if they have been properly refrigerated the entire time.

Yep, go ahead and use them as long as you have kept them cool, you should be fine for another week or so without worries. That date is most likely the sell by date, not the use by.

Yes they are fine to use:) It's just a best if used by date. It's a suggestion. You'll be fine!

Yes they are still good. The date on the package is the date the store has to sell the product by.
They should still be good for a couple of days after the sell by date.

Yes and actually older eggs are easier to peel when boiled. It is a sell by date to protect the company selling.

As people have been saying it would be ok to eat it.. After about 2 or 3 day's then I wouldn't risk it.. Enjoy your Egg :D

Yes, I've often used out of date eggs and more than just a few days over too. I can remember when there weren't dates on eggs, so you just risked it and I've never had a problem. I think the egg companies are just being cautious. I always keep mine in the fridge but many chefs say that you shouldn't, who knows what to believe these days!
