What do you fry first- the garlic or the onion?!

Question:

What do you fry first- the garlic or the onion?

having this dilemma i usually fry them simultaneously, or fry the onion first because the garlic is chopped up into smaller pieces.

Answers:
onions get fried first. it takes them longer to get done and/or caramelize. garlic when over cooked tends to get bitter

Onions. Because onions need more time to get a little golder and if you fry garlics for that long you lose all the garlic flavor.

The onion, garlic becomes bitter when overcooked.

I always saute the onion first before adding the garlic. It takes longer for the onion to cook and it takes little time for the garlic to overcook.

Onion first - it takes a little longer. Garlic burns really easily, and it's GROSS when it's burnt. (Not to mention, burnt garlic REEKS!)

You always fry the onions first. It's just the way to do it.

onions! garlic turns bitter if it's cooked too long

I'd do onions first- need a little longer to saute and garlic is really just to have flavor infused into mixture

Well, now, it really depends on the purpose of the garlic. Often it is intended to flavor the oil used in the dish, in which case it goes first. Also, the degree of doneness required for the onions at the time you fry them is a question. Often, they can both go in at the same time. Always check the original recipe. If that is not available, piece the probabilities out from the recipe you're working with.

onion. Because garlic burns easily and it tastes bad when overcooked.
