Can unopened margarine be used after being left out of the refrigerator?
I bought a bunch of the little single serving margarines for a party. My husband took them out of the fridge without my knowledge and they've been out for weeks. Do I toss them and get more or are they good to use???
Answers:
i would think it would depend on the ingredients. if it's nothing but vegetable oil, i say it's fine. if there is dairy, I'd be careful.
Yes, margarine is so indestructable, when left in the woods for days animals won't even eat it!
they should be good still
Yes, they should be okay to use. I would open one to check to see if it is rancid, if not enjoy!
Nothing will happen to the margarine. My mother use to leave the margarine out on the counter. But she keeps in the margarine container. So don't worry about the margarine being left out of the fridge. You can still use it for your party. Have fun at your party.
when i buy margarine, i always set some out for toast or bagels, or whatever. I have never had a problem after eating it. Sometimes it sets for days or longer. And even if you dont trust it, just buy new its only like 60 cents for 4 bars of it! I would just eat it though.
I'm sorry, but the philosophy, "When in doubt, throw it out!" typically applys here! If its stored in refrigerated trucks to get to us, stored in the coolers at the store for us, why would you think its safe to eat it after WEEKS of being out? a few hours on the counter I have seen some people do, tho I think they're a little odd...but I've never seen anyone get fatally sick from that...I really couldnt find it anywhere on the internet where it said, ya sure, give it a try! It ALWAYS stated left in a fridge or freezer for 4-6 months, NOT left out in the open. For the cost and the doubt, just pick up some new ones!! :-)
hope this helps!
Storing
Keep margarine tightly wrapped in the refrigerator or freezer. You can store most margarine in the freezer for up to 6 months.
