We call it a pot luck.

Here in Australia we refer to it as 'bring a plate'.

In the US most offices call it a pot-luck. A potluck is a gathering of people where each person is expected to bring a dish of food to be shared among the group.

Synonyms include: potluck dinner, Jacob's join[1][2], Jacob's supper, faith supper, covered dish supper, pitch-in, carry-in.

My version of pot luck is a case of beer.

A Pot-luck.

In Indiana, they called it a Pitch-in. That's the only place I've ever heard it referred to as such. Hm.
