I have noticed little black bugs in the kitchen and pantry sometimes.?!

Question:

I have noticed little black bugs in the kitchen and pantry sometimes.?

Last night they were in the rice a roni and I've seen them before in mac and cheese. Does anybody know what they are and how to get rid of them?

Answers:
Oh yes, weevils. We had them a couple of years in a row and what a torment they are. Throw out everything you find them in- clean your cabinets thoroughly.

I now only keep cans in my cabinets, just to be safe. I freeze the flour and sugar and muffin mix as soon as I get it home from the store, keep it in the freezer overnight. Then it stays in the fridge! Really, I don't ever want to see those things again and this is an easy preventative method.

Oh, and I keep bread and stuff like that in a sealed container. Everything grainy should be in a sealed container - no bags, no cardboard boxes. Honestly, it is a pain but prevention is well worth it, for the future. Good luck!

The best idea is to check all your grains and super clean the kitchen. Keep food like cereal in the fridge or invest in good airtight containers that bugs can't get into. Once you have bugs in one thing, they usually end up in everything. Trust me I used to be a bulk buyer at a grocery store!!

of coarse you know what ants are but they could be some type of beetle.I had the same problem in my kitchen so I tried finding were they were coming from and soon got rid of them.

Those little bugs are called Weevil's. These bugs love grain. They will get into your flour, cake mixes, mac n' cheese, and anything similar. To get rid of them you need to completley clean your kitchen. The whole cupboards and and around cans, and then check all your boxed food for these bugs. If you can I suggest keeping your sugar and flour in the refrigerator or freezer. This will help prevent the bugs from getting into those. If cleaning doesn't get rid of them then call pest control. I've had these bugs before, they take forever to finally get rid of them. But, I wish you luck.

I was getting those every year but this one. They are very small, and hard to notice unless there are a whole lot of them. Take all of the food out of your cabinet, and clean it with kitchen cleaner like lysol kitchen or 409. Toss the food that the bugs are in, and put the rest into plastic containers or ziploc bags. Everytime you get something at the grocery store that is in a paperboard box, you will need to do this. They come out of the wood during the hot months, and you rarely see them during the winter. You can call a pest control company, but that is a lot of money. We kept the boxes out of the pantry for the last 2 years, and they didn't return this year (yay!).
They are actually similar to termites, they may be in the food, but its really the packaging that they are after!
Good Luck!

Most likely they are flour beetles. They feed on most grains.

Like previously stated, throw out infested products, get air tight containers, and give your kitchen and pantry a good scrub down.
