Why doesn't sugar dissolve in my drink?!

Question:

Why doesn't sugar dissolve in my drink?

Several times when I am drinking plain soy milk, I add some sugar in (two small spoons) and when I drink it, I can taste the granulated sugar, like it hasn't dissolved and is still grainy. I thought that sugar was supposed to dissolve in liquid. Also my mom adds sugar in her soy milk, too, and I still taste the grainy sugar.

Answers:
It depends on the lliquid. Since it is soy milk the sugar may not be able to disolve as easily. Also, it depends on the concentration. The mixture may be saturated (holding all the sugar it can) with only a little bit, which makes the rest just float.

STIR THE MIXTURE!!!

i think it has to to with the temperature of the liquid. the colder it is the longer it takes to dissolve. well obviously you gotta stir it too, but im assuming you did that of course!

sugar doesn't dissolve well in cold drinks i find that splenda works pretty good. i put the splenda in my glass and then pour whatever i'm drinking over it.

the drink is to cold. Silly

its because the soymilk it cold. Sugar doesnt dissolve well in cold liquid. Try making a simple syrup. Thats what we usually do when we serve cold coffee. Warm up some water with some suga and let it melt all the way. You can add that to your soy milk and stir. That should work well. You can also warm up some of the soy milk, just a little portion and add sugar to that. Let it disolve and then add the cold soymilk on top. I hope this helped.

my mom made her own soy milk. when it's hot, she adds the sugar. i loved hot soy milk. try using a few drops of really hot water first to the sugar or making a simple syrup (stove top heating of water and sugar) to add to the milk. it's the same with making sweet tea. really hated the grainy taste in my sweet tea at resturants. always asked them if they added it after it's been cooled or not.
