Where can I buy brown rice at white rice prices?!

Question:

Where can I buy brown rice at white rice prices?

When I went to the store I discovered that a 4 lb bag of brown rice was more expensive than a 25 lb bag of white rice. This was a little surprising since it was my understanding that white rice was “manufactured” from brown rice. Where can I get a 20-50 lb bags of brown rice at white rice prices ($0.22 per lb here in 50 lb bags)? If there is some reason why (*other than lower sales volume) that brown rice should cost so much more than white rice I would also be interested to hear.

tesco or asda

I know exactly what you mean. I buy Uncle Ben's Brown rice and I pay $4.12 for a small bag because they don't sell any big bags at least not where I buy the rice. Try an organic store they might sell by pound. But be careful because brown rice can get rotten faster than white rice. So try not to buy too much unless you plan to eat it within 2 weeks and make sure to put in the refrigerator once youve opened it

I think buying it in bulk is cheaper.

Good old supply and demand strikes again. Since there is less demand for brown rice the price is higher, even though it costs less per pound to produce than white rice. Although you can save some money by buying larger quantities, don't expect to get brown rice for the same price as white rice. Also, remember that brown rice is more prone to spoilage than white rice, so if you are going to buy brown rice in bulk you should refrigerate it to increase its shelf life.
