If the top of the mango is yellowishred and the bottom is green is it ripe?!

Question:

If the top of the mango is yellowishred and the bottom is green is it ripe?

Answers:
For tht type of mango you want to have an all over reddish orange tinge. the Adolphis ones are always all yellow.

Also the smell and feel, they should have slightly soft feel and sweet not alcholey smell.

Since mangoes vary in color from green to purplish red, determining ripeness can be a problem. Experts say mangoes are ready to eat if the flesh gives way slightly when you squeeze them gently. Growers suggest you ask your market's produce manager or greengrocer for help, because mangoes won't survive endless prodding and poking.

Another tip: smell the stem end of the mango. If it gives off a fruity aroma, it's ready to eat. If your mango isn't quite ripe, you can still take it home, wrap it in paper and leave next to ripe fruit. And once ripe, put them in the fridge -- mangoes are best when slightly chilled.

Because mangos come in a rainbow of reds, yellows, oranges, and greens, color is not the best way to determine ripeness. Sniff for a fragrant fruity odor at the stem end, or squeeze very gently to detect a firm yet yielding feel under your fingers. Mangos ripen best at room temperature. To accelerate ripening, you may place the fruit in a paper bag overnight. Then use the mango fairly quickly ?- it will not have the optimal shelf life of a mango ripened slowly.
