What is the difference between apple pie and apple tart?

An apple pie is made in a pie tin, has 'lots of apples' between two crusts, and usually has 'cinnamon' to season it. An apple tart can be 'any size' but it is usually made with only 'one layer' of apple slices, and there's no 'top crust' ... I used to make one which had 'blackberry wine' topping. I'd actually make both at Christmas time and they both went 'first' of all of the desserts.
Apple Pie has 3 P's while Apple Tart only has 2

I don't think that there is a difference. I think that in America they prefer pie and that in Europe they like tarts.
