Question:

How do you know if a food contains preservatives?

How do you know if a food contains preservatives? Is there a specific ingredient or label or what?

Answers:
anything you cant pronounce.

And dough conditioners in bread like Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, Calcium Dioxide, Calcium Iodate, Diammonium Phosphate, Dicalcium Phosphate, Monocalcium Phosphate, Mono And Diglycerides, Ethoxylated Mono And Diglycerides

Also a bad preservative in meats you should avoid is nitrates/nitrites

On the label there is a list of ingredients. Some of these are named but others have a number code. There are books available that contain the codes so that you know what you are eating. Try websites dealing with nutrition.

If it has a shelf life of a year, you know it has preservatives. Without preservatives, your food won't last very long. Most things made contain some type of preservatives or we'd be shopping every other day.

The preservatives are usually the words on the ingredient labels that cannot be pronounced and hint of a Latin root.
