Do peanuts grow in the ground?!

Question:

Do peanuts grow in the ground?

i was eating a bowl of peanuts today and it struck me that i didn't know and now im really wondering.

Answers:
Yes, and peanuts are a very interesting plant, too! It's a legume, like peas and beans. The plant grows, flowers, and then the flowering part droops and buries itself. The buried flower turns into the peanut!

George Washington Carver found many, many products could be made from peanuts, including soap, candles, oil, and of course, peanut butter.

no they grow on a little bush
and just hang down

yep.

Yep, you dig them up when they are ready, hopefully.
When we were kids we planted some, and they actually grew. My parents gave in to our begging and finally let us dig them up part way through the summer. They probably could have used a month or so more in the ground, but they looked like peanuts, and kind of tasted like them!

They grow underground like carrots and potatoes.

no
