Why does refrigerated food spoil faster in the UK than in the US?
We are living in London temporarilly and have been in two flats. In both, the food seems to spoil rapidly in the refrigerator, e.g. bread grows mold after 3 - 4 days. in the US it would last weeks.

Because I think that in the USA food contains more GMO which prevents it from spoiling. Didn't you notice that even milk tastes different? You should buy your food fresh and eat it soon.
Try turning the thermostat on your fridge upto 7 or 8, it may be too low especially if the flat is quite warm.
American food is stuffed with preservatives and genetically modified as well. English food is healthier. Eat it faster, put some in the fridge plus the rest in the freezer, or buy smaller quantities!
food is not meant to last a week it must be full of chemicals and the temp of fridges differs for each country.in scotland its between 1-4 but in england its 1-8.in scotland the food will last longer because its cooler.
you must be buying a lot of bread for it to last weeks!. i would prefer to buy a small loaf every few days, and have it fresh, regardless of how cold the fridge is.
I experienced the same dilemma in the middle east. My guess is where ever you are the humidity level is pretty low. At least that is what my problem was.
No natural moisture in the air means things dry out faster therefore causing them to spoil / go stale faster
