Cereal boxes?

what are all the colored boxes and cross hairs, underneath the first flap on the top of cereal boxes . When ever I open them up in the morning, I wonder...

great. now i'm going to have to go home and look at all my cereal boxes.....i honestly have no clue! maybe so that the computer knows where to cut the cardboard for the boxes?
