I do not understand why this is?!

Question:

I do not understand why this is?

I can't eat most foods. The texture disgusts me usually, but sometimes it is simply gross. This has always been and my family is always pointing it out to me.. as well as other people I know at my church or anywhere else. On my own time I've tried to eat things such as steak, other meats, some vegetables/fruits, etc. I'm not a vegetarian.. I just don't eat most things.. it is so wierd. I don't have a sore attitude about it and automatically think it will be gross. That's not the case. My family and no one else understands this and I don't understand why it is either. I have to eat simple things, like bread & cheese, etc. Why is this hard for my family to understand, &/or why am I so wierd like this?

As my question said, I've been like this all my life. My family thinks I just don't *try* anything and have a poor attitude about it. This isn't the case, and if I told them that they wouldn't understand. I don't know if it is some sort of disorder or not.. is there such a thing?? I try my best to hide it from strangers and friends that don't know.. otherwhise I'd be pretty socially isolated.

And one more thing. Talked about it when I went to a sports physical a long time ago.. and the doctor said, "Starvation technique always works." Which it didn't with me.. because to me, most food is gross. Don't get me wrong, I love to eat. So going to any doctor doesn't do a thing for me.

I appreciate the advice, but I want to clarify something. I've done that, and I still find it all gross. Finding more foods that I can eat isn't possible since I've already tried.

i think it's weird that MORE people aren't disgusted by what they put in their mouths! Nature equips us with a sense of repulsion when we are presented with foods that are not good for us. Rotted (and often raw) meat will make us gag and rotten fruits and vegetables smell terrible. It sounds like you have this to an extreme to where even odd textures turn you off. I don't think your body would sabotage you to the point where you would be unable to eat at all. it sounds like it's up to you to find a variety of foods that you like well enough that will provide you with balanced nutrition. You do not have to eat meat to be healthy - don't let anyone tell you that you must! BUT you do need to find a few vegetables that you do like and eat those regularly. Same with fruits. Maybe you can invest in a good juicer and try some fruit blends (add a carrot or two to fruit juices for a nutritional kick) - there's hardly any texture there! Soups might also be a good way for you to get broader nutrition - you can juice your own or buy smooth varieties. I would encourage you to continue eating breads, but make them whole grain! White bread has hardly any nutritional value (even if it's enriched), but whole grains...WOW are they ever good for you! I also would recommend eating only low fat cheeses. You do need fat in your diet, but not the kind that comes from cheese. I also would suggest going on a shopping spree at your local farmers market or a store with a GOOD produce section and just take time to wander and appreciate the shapes and smells of different fruits - pick up some things that appeal to your other senses and sample them knowing that you don't have to eat the whole thing if you don't like it, but sample with an adventurous mind! With about $20 you can buy a really broad sampling. Lastly, I would pick up a book called THE PRODUCE BIBLE to help broaden your knowledge of the different fruits and veggies out there - something might pique your interest! I'd get a book on nutrition, too, so you know where you can get certain nutrients. I wish you the best of luck!

they proble think u going to become a vegetarien and their scared and your not wierd

It also might be some sort of eating disorder that isn't as well know as bulimia. Best thing to do is ask your doctor about it.

you should maybe just explain to them what it is
