Does salsa count as a vegetable serving?!

Question:

Does salsa count as a vegetable serving?

Answers:
Yes, if its like a good quarter cup serving. It has vitamin c too. But get salsa that does not have sugar added or a lot of salt, or one that has sea salt is better too for you instead.

I ? SALSA!!!!!!!!!!

I would assume yes, its made mostly of tomatoes. Its also low fat.

only if you eat a lot of it

It is if you eat a good sized portion of it.

well it could but there's alot of sugar and sodium in salsa to give it that spicy feel so i wouldn't count it as a true severing as a veggie if u dont like eating real veggies try those new v-8 things there pretty good well hope this helps

no why did you ask

Even though tomatoes are actually a fruit, yes.

yeahhh

It does for me. (even though tomatoes are classified as a fruit).
I believe a serving of vegetables is 1/2 cup. I easily eat 1/2 a cup of "good homemade" salsa often. My family teases me about having some " whatever" with my salsa.

Here's a sample of my recipe, though I don't always follow the same ingredients.

4 vine ripened tomatoes (or 6-8 romas) seeded and diced
4 cloves garlic-minced
1-2 jalepeno peppers to taste (I don't seed as I like the heat)-diced.
1/2 red or yellow onion, fine diced (sweet onions are ok but don't have the zip)
1/2 a palmful of cilantro - chopped
zest of 1/2 lime
juice of 1 lime
pinch of sea salt (I like the course salt)

Mix together and let sit an hour before eating.

For variations, I will use a tomatillo, or for a great sweet salsa, add mango-diced, a pinch of brown sugar or for a zesty citrus salsa, add orange or grapefuit sections-thinly sliced/cut.

I like the sweet mango salsa with fish or chicken as well as the citrus, but both work well with pork. For beef, I prefer the simple tomato or tomatillo salsa.

Salsa is for more that chip dipping! Great on baked potatoes too.

OH........to answer the question.....the way I eat salsa counts a serving or 2 or 3. LOL
