Should I eat an out-of-date egg?!
Should I eat an out-of-date egg?
My mum has made a cake with an egg that ran out on 13th May, it is now 17th June. Should I eat the cake bearing in mind it has been cooked.
Additional Details6 days ago
It has been in the fridge since I bought it and has been in there for 6 weeks now and has just been cooked.
Thanks for all your answers so far.

If the eggs were bad, your mom would have smelled them. I have used out of date eggs and was fine.
One day I was paying much attention and made cornbread with eggs that were iffy. The cornbread looked like flatbread and had an awful taste, so I threw it away.
So look at the cake, take a small taste and you decide.
NO! are you mad?why do you think things have use by dates on? i give you a clue its so you dont eat bad food that will make you very ill, surely your mum knows this?its a month out of date can no one calculate this?
If you're not gonna eat it give it to me! Yes of course eat the cake it should be fine
4 days out of date is not an issue.
eggs are one of the few foods that go well beyond the sell by date. i would say a week at least! i do it all the time,i am still here!
Yeah if is refrigerated
No if is not
Hopes this is the best..:D
I don't know. One of my roommates ate some REALLY old eggs, like 6 months old, and she was fine. I thought it was gross, though. Someone told me if the egg isn't rotten when you crack it open then it is ok.
Well, If It Was One Egg, And It Has Been Coocked, Then All The Bad Bacteria Should Be Gone Because of The High Temperature, But If It Was A Pack Of Eggs, Then The Chance of Getting Infected Is Much Higher......Just Keep In Mind That Is A Delicious Cake Made Just For You...
Probably not, but if it has been cooked yes. Try to finish the cake that same day or else it will spoil.
Yeah, it's OK.
Boy, this puts a new spin on "Let them Eat Cake!"...
Mixed in a cake, I don't think you'll get AS sick as if you ate it alone..However, it's always best to error on the safe side...so I would not...IT'S WAY OUT DATED!...
Eggs are usually a few weeks old when you purchase them..and they put the date on there for a reason!
We raise our own laying hens and we don't wash the eggs off until right before we use them...GOD has put a protective coating on them, and the commercial egg suppliers wash it off...Another way you can give more life to your eggs is to turn them around every few days in their containers...Flip up one day, Down the next...It works, but it wouldn't keep them fresher for more than a week's time...
Tell your Mom that you asked this question...
that expiration date is a SELL by date not for the life of the food. Eggs are 1 of the few foods that can stay unrefrigerated for a couple of weeks. Refrigerated they good for a very long time. Eat ur moms' cake and stop fretting.
