Why adding salt to the corn when boiling, makes it tough?!

Question:

Why adding salt to the corn when boiling, makes it tough?

Answers:
it is true
although I can't explain the science of it-lol
corn is a full of starch and salt binds gluten and that toughens
use plain water or water milk combo to boil corn on the cob
some people add 1teaspoon of sugar to store bought corn to add to the sweetness since the older corn is the more it loses its sweetness

i don't know if that's true because i never add salt to corn. i've always used plain water or a combo of milk and water. the milk is supposed to keep it sweet and tender.
