I take it you are from the UK, I was in England twice now on trips and looked so forward to have the authentic English Fish and Chips. My parents are from the UK (years back) and talked about getting some fish and chips in "a paper" . When I got some I was never so disappointed, they were greasy and the fish was terrible, it came with the skin still on the fish and tasted real fishy. I thought perhaps it was one bad shop so a few days later in another part of London I tried another and got the same thing. I was thinking the shop would be run by a Brit with a cockney accent but was not the case both times they were run by immigrants that just did not have the savie how to do the job right. Sounds racist but not my intent, just the facts. We get excellent fish and chips right at home here in a franchise called "Cockney Kings". Cheers!

Still the classic fish and chips but I do occasionally venture in to steak pie supper (with gravey or mush peas) and if I am feeling adventurous I will go for the artery hardening deep fried pizza and chips with pleny of brown sauce. The latter I have only seen in central Scotland which may explain some of the heart disease problems we have up here....

There is a picture of one below of you are interested.

There isn't any better fish than halibut for fish and chips! I order it batter fried with chips. Ketchup and malt vinegar on the side. Yummo!

Chips and gravy, a cheese&onion pie and a carton of peas.

If it's the chinese chippy I'd have chips, rice and curry and a bag of prawn crackers.

A special (in breadcrumbs) fish supper for me with salt and sauce, where I live, in the east of Scotland the brown sauce is watered down with vinegar and squirted all over. My partner is from the west and thinks it's revolting he just has salt and vinegar.

In Scotland I like: chips, gravy and mushy peas.

In London I like: Rock and chips with loads of vinegar and salt on them, and a massive pickled wally.

In Scotland the only fish I could ever find was haddock, nice enough but cod and rock are much better.
